According to Toro Rosso's head of vehicle performance, Gasly suffered a lot of understeer in his last fast lap in Q2 and they're still not sure what caused it. They're going over the data.
Maybe the wind changed direction?? And that made setup a bit worst?? Or track temp being lower

From the numbers seems like STR13 is running more rearwing DF. That Gasly is at the bottom of the speed traps makes me think there's still also a mapping and deployment mismatch between simulation and actual running. Hopefully the Austria aero update will help with the mid to high speed corners.

Also, was STR the only team to suffer a power outage in the pit garage? They lost a considerable amount of time first day and the rain in fp3 made it effectively useless. On a good note, Gaslys pace on the SS looked pretty good.

We need a clean race from both cars tomorrow for as much data and running as possible. Team goal has to be finish the race and don't compromise the car in the opening lap.

I think the mapping is far from perfect hence they rely on heavy rear downforce and lead to heavy understeer. Give honda and STR more time to solve the issue.

Haas has the best pace of midfield. Given overtaking is impossible, it will be hard to get points unless there is retirements

The cars are locked in park ferme rules in Q1 so if understeer wasn't a problem in Q1 then how could engine mapping and rear downforce make such a difference in Q2. A gust of wind is the more likely answer then heavy rear downforce and engine mapping.

Not only that but it wasn't a problem on his first lap in Q2.

I suspect they have been playing with the dif and lost the settings after the rain

It was the one run at the end of Q2 that he had understeer and not the whole of Q1 and Q2. They can't play with the differential once qualifying starts and so your theory is invalid unless something broke. A gust of wind is the most probable explanation.

We could potentially see some outrageous aero designs from both STR and RBR with the Honda PU from next year.
One could almost call them "Size Zero"
Favourite driver: Lando Norris
Favourite team: McLaren

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️
