This is why its important to have a buffer in the championship and that buffer was used to day. Respect to Ferrari for keeping positions. Well done Max for the win.

RedBull had blistering, Mercedes had blistering, but Ferrari did not. It seems like Ferrari is really gentle on the tyres, without sacrificing Qualification pace (unless the tyres have thin tread).

I think it is pretty obvious now that Ferrari is fastest on the 'normal' tyres.

Congrats to Max. That was proper, solid drive from him to ace the race. He thoroughly deserved the win.

So much for Mercs version 2.1 engine and all it added "goodness". #-o
It seems complacency has set in with quite a few unpardonable strategy errors, parts not meeting specification and so forth. You get the feeling of a team in limbo. Heads will surely roll now.

Calm down its gearbox and fuel presure problem.

I expect Ricciardo to do well in this race though, his calmer approach to race day could even see him finish ahead of Max (again).
You know Max is leading 4-2 in races right, not to mention of qualifying where it is 6-3?
Damn right, mate. In the end, it was a brilliant outing for Max today as well.

This race evidenced that Pirelli bjased the Championship fight by altering the tyres .
That's really unfair

Double penalty for the Mercedes drivers later in the season then. Assuming a new engine is required in Ham, new gearbox in Bot?
You can change gearboxes for free if you don't finish the GP.
Let's wait for the situation on Hamilton's engine, it didn't blow and ancilliary systems can be changed for free as well.

Big time disaster for Mercedes, everything that could go wrong went wrong.

On the race good job Max on pacing himself, Ricciardo went full attack after the pit stop, set fastest laps and that took him nowhere.

Talking about engines, not a good race for the new Renaults huh.

Pretty interesting race. Raikkonen had a couple of opportunities to win it.

Great start, then losing out to Bottas.
The touch with Verstappen.
Making a mistake that allowed Ricciardo past.

All of the above make for more than 1.5 seconds, and the Verstappen pass was basically what decided the race. This is the difference between Kimi at 25 and Kimi at 38.

My point is only buttressed by the fact that it seems to have affected not just one, but both cars. So, you have strategy and engineering fails thoroughly trashing a race that was theirs for the taking, losing valuable constructor and driver points.

The last time it was folk getting dimensions of the engine wrong, today it was a shocking strategy failure and an equally shocking double DNF.

Something has become old and tired at Merc. After today, Ferrari now leads both constructor and drivers championships.

Only Ferrari powered cars with no technical issues. Coincidence?!?!?
