AFAIK engines are per driver and not per team hence cannot be switched.

Here is a thought. Engines are per car/driver, so if a driver comes in to replace Hartley, does he take a penalty, or does it just count as 'one engine'? It would apparently mean the new driver takes the one already in, but that is a little unfair
Engines are assigned to the car. Jenson took a penalty in Monaco last year when he stood in for Fernando
Correct - My bad, I stand to be corrected.

Actually a thought - In theory, can 2 drivers for the same team switch cars mid-season? :?:

That is interesting. If the engines are assigned to the car, then a driver, who is a championship contender, whose engine go pops, should jump into his team mate's car from the next race onward and drive without facing any penalty! As the points are awarded to driver and not car, then get back to his own car after his team mate has served the penalty FOR THAT CAR. It should be easy!

Hmm, the idea might work but aren't the cars referred to as numbers? Car no. 44, car no. 5 etc. So even if, say, Vettel jumps into Raikkonen's car, he'll carry his no. 5 to the other car so basically, that car will become car no.5 and will have to use a PU from the allocation of car no.5!?

The number belongs to the driver not the car.

Taking again the Button example in Monaco, his number was 22, yet he still inherited the penalty from Alonso, 14. It was Button's only race, so he practically was on his 'first' engine.

Taking some other examples in 2017, Sainz moved team, while Brandon and Gasly came in the last few races and pretty sure they inherited the car's penalties.

The question that remains though is what happens if the move is within the team, if that's even possible?

We hed a similar case last year with Kvyat taking Sainz's car after giving his one to Gasly. The same Gasly that changed car at Mexico (or was it Hartley ?).

Onboard Highlight reel. Footage of Gasly and Stroll from start to second corner (1:15-1:42) Some good drag racing there. Gasly gaining on Perez up to first corner. And then the straight up to second corner we have a good drag race between Stroll and Gasly.
The Honda is strong. Onwards and upwards! 👊

i truly believe toro rosso are in a good position to pass mclaren. its really a one driver team for toro rosso. hopefully they recheck the aero package in silverstone to check for any gains. becausee gasly with an old spec engine and old aero did really well against hartley spec 2 engine and new aero. and when hartly put the old front wing , he was much closer to gasly qualy time in Q1. something not right. maybe the new front wing a bit more draggy. hopefully they sort them in silverstone.

check SPA 2015 start ...
the PU is very decent now but still need work to close the gap to the MERCS i assume the RBR chassis will be the real factor to close that gap.. so the Honda will improve to the point that Renault failed the past 5 years.
para bellum.

It was not the start of the drag that let Honda down it was the end, where the other car could still call for electrical energy but the Honda powered car could not.
This is where Honda have made improvements this year as much, or possibly more so as with the ICE.

If it is 'empty' at the end of the straight, it means it also has to be limited when needed exiting the next corner. If Honda are recovering enough for full use for the whole lap, that is real progress.
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.

Gasly had hit and had not good first lap otherwise he could have a good race. It is good to see development but drivers especially Hartley must learn faster.

Wonder what the issue is in the PU. Thing was idling fine before shutoff. I believe this is Gasly's old Spec 1 PU though. Spec 2 isn't used in first practices
