Only yesterday I asked myself the same question. I think I should only have that cutout behind the rear wheels as strakes going all the way to the floor would look cooler. But right now even the strakes have to stay inside of the template.

Yes, very good question. I should have pointed that out. You design as you always did. There is now a new option in the settings. Here you can enter the rake. Do not forget to apply the new setting.

Are you not MercuryMotorsport? You should be able to log in again, or you just did not have the time?

When I head to the Mantium Challenge page and click the Log On in the menu I get no options to log in.
I did, however, find if I went to the MantiumFlow Q&A there was a login box there and that worked.

Nice to get going again!
Will we use same OF version as last year? And what about fvSchemes, fvSolutions and DarcyForchheimerCoeffs? Are there any changes from last year ?

I have the same doubt: in the "default settings" file, there is a line about OF 2017

Code: Select all

local_OF_location=C:\Program Files\blueCFD-Core-2017
Should we install blueCFD2017 instead of 2016?

Update: it looks like blueCFD-Core-2017 is required, but 2017-1 or 2017-2?

Sorry I posted the following in the old thread:

Hi, I'm new here and would like to join the competition for this year. Now I have a question about the HEX rotation. The rulebook stated about the heat exchanger rotation: "The planar shapes may be rotated around the Y-axis only. Any such rotation must be no more than 60 degrees from a forward-facing orientation." I Interpret this as drawn in the attached figure. Here the dotted line is a HEX surface. However when doing so, MantiumFlow gives an error, saying the heat exchanger is rotated more than allowed. So what is exactly meant by this rule?

Hi Team_Bart, the images seems to be correct. Have you tried with a sligthly smaller angle (59°)?

An image with the section of the car would help.

Yes, tried for 50 degrees as well but the same error is there. I used the case where the HEX is leaning bachwards btw. I can show an image with the car tomorrow (since I have no acces to the file atm) if it is not clear yet.

I tested the rotation last year (45°) and the software worked (even if the results were not good). Let's take a look to a local section tomorrow.

so I have a simulation running at the moment using blueCFD-Core-2017-2 and the latest MantiumFlow, the only geometry I have is wheels in the frt_wheels and frr_wheels folder and the rear wing in the high res folder.
It seems to be taking a lot longer...

Hi, I will test blueCFD-Core-2017-2 in a couple of days.

I am still studing the new rules, playing with the CAD model without CFD.

Maybe we will have a Valkyrie running with us? At the moment it is as real as our cars :D
I am sure Adrien Newey knows about MVRC and he would not be afraid to compete :wink:

roll/pitch/yaw in degrees and translate in m

Thank you, this the way to rotate/translate a part in the OF environement. My question was much more trivial: how to launch MFlow from command line, with a rake angle different from zero (in order to generate the case folder with a rotated car: maybe the OF function you indicated will be written by WFlow itself).

Yes, MFlow has a nice GUI but I prefer to launch from command line.
