A clutch smokes like that???

Maybe a hydraulic fluid leak into the clutch?

So Ricciardo retired due to a clutch issue and not the engine so he should be good for the win in the next race
I wonder how many of the people who watched the race on TV and switched it off afterwards will be left with the idea that it was another Renault PU failure.

Whatever happened to vettels unsafe release? Was described as a slam dunk at the time. Any video of it?

Watched it a couple of times on F1 TV and it was quite unsafe imo.
He was released shortly before Ericsson passed his pit crew who was going slower than usual in the pitlane since he had a puncture.

I agreed watching the race Max deserved the penalty, however i can understand his explanation. He just basically says he left enough space for Bottas, considering the green stuff next to the tarmac is part of the track. Bottas didn't fully ride on the green stuff, and therefor Bottas caused the collision. Look at the on board of Bottas in the movie. I think it is in some way brilliant by pushing the rules to the limit..

The green stuff is not tarmac, so grip is different. If a car goes over the green stuff with left wheels under braking, that could easily cause a spin and crash.

Bottas went to the left all he could safely, there was no need to assume the risk of braking on the green stuff, there was more than enough space. But Max decided to not let him enough space. Not a surprise I´m afraid #-o

Well deserved penalty for Verstappen

Great race.
Hamilton in a league of his own. Ferrari may need to poach him if they want to be champions again.
After Spa it was looking like the championship was in Vettel's hands and it was only a matter of time before that 17 point gap would disappear under the power of the ferrari engine and agility and traction of the chassis.
Now we see Vettel and Kimi ballsing up the races by their own mistakes and creating a window of hope for Hamilton, who has been mostly flawless.
Only if they put Alonso and Rosberg in place of vettel and Kimi will ferrari win this year.
Their arms are too short to box with the racing god Hamilton for seven more rounds.
For Sure!!

The track limits is the white line, not the grass. So Bottas went as far as he could. Verstappen squeezed him too much.

This is how it starts, the red mist tends to follow. I am afraid for a 2017 ending all over again.

I actually watched him say so on sky with a lot of disbelief. He's not doing himself any favours making such arguments.
He had no business being on the racing line with Lewis (I made a post with an illustration of the rules a short while ago).

Teds notebook has said that it was indeed a slam dunk unsafe release but because it was Sauber they have not called for an investigation (They get a lot of stuff from Ferrari) and the FIA/Stewards are happy to sweep it under the carpet.
