And that's the killer part. If you have a Mercedes or Ferrari behind you (or even a Red Bull) why would you hurt your own race to hold them behind for a few corners? Battling a much faster car can cost you over a second in a single sector and they'll just blast past you on the main straight leaving you with filthy tyres from all your defending off line. Maybe you might hold one behind in somewhere like Monaco or Singapore.
Maybe. But, if the pitstops are still to come, then it's pointless as they'll simple over/undercut you.
It's sad not to see people fighting for position but, with every point (and PU mileage) being precious, it makes too much sense not to.
