Apparently the US was "not a good tyre" in Sochi and "everybody struggled on it", which

(a) explains why Max did well in the first stint and went backwards when he switched to US.
(b) means Ferrari's choice of only taking a single set of Soft tyres for Vettel looks a bit silly in hindsight.
The leading four all started on ultras and didn't have pace problems. In fact they left the rest of the field for dead.

The rest of the top 10 were all on HS/US, though, if all tyres are rubbish, the top teams still go faster than the others.

Come to think of it, explains how Vettel managed to sneak past Hamilton at the pit stops too.

Source of the quotes is a senior F1 engineer for one of the teams.

Do we have footage or screenshot of Hamilton exiting the pit lane after his stop. I think he crossed the white line. Isn't this a penalty?
I know you want him to get penalized.. but no.. he didn't. His left front tyre touched the white line on entry to the pit lane, but that is not illegal. Keep searching.

Although it looked terrifying, probably so light that it didn’t even scratched his tear-off. It fell into his lap after it hit his visor, so almost no energy in that.

That was one of the most awkward post races I've seen in quite awhile. The whole atmosphere around the podium was awkward. Looked like Hamilton offered Bottas the trophy and was glad he declined taking it. Hamilton did invite Bottas up to the top level of the podium. This isn't the first race this season Hamilton owed gratitude to Bottas for being a team mate and not a team adversary. But it is the first I've seen him actually show it publicly. I understand Mercedes actions. Might even have done it if those cards were mine. Don't mean I like them.

Yet again, a superb drive from Leclerc. I’m very excited about at his future time at Ferrari and, as a fan, look forward to it.

Um... Looking at that picture would you expect him not to cross that line and drive into the wall?

Vettel's defensive move stabalised. Quite cool how different it looks like that. Clearly one move.

So two blocking moves but in one direction are fine now (Vettel, Magnussen)? The second one way too late, in Vettel's case one but combined with braking earlier to block thus making it NOT one continuous move despite the line; crash risking or causing (Baku) known as Verstappen's maneuver :D (TM). Charlie W. is nowhere to be seen to explain.

Here's an idea that would keep the flow of racing, they should give reprimands for that making it a meaningful and not fake penalty. Same for cutting corner as a way of defending, another Verstappen's trademark, instead of "don't do it again" warning. Same for overtaking under yellow flags on top of giving position back, another... nevermind.
