There used to be a Russian? site that aggregated real time test timings, lap deltas the whole caboodle but it was shut down a couple of years ago. It was great because you could see the tyre degradation in the long run times which was interesting info, a superb site.

Yeah I remember that one, testtimes.co?? . A slovenian or slovakian site or something like that. Was really good though. Was sooooo disappointed a few years ago when it disappeared :o
f1tests.co.cc. We saw that last in 2012. Still sitting in my browser's Favorites links.
Its been gone 7 years!!! no way! honestly felt like 2014/2015

Around the same time, there was this guy abulafiaf1, whose blogs on testing were insightful. He was also gone. He was also a member on f1technical.

This should be easier ?! #-o

Still 5 different compounds, 3 colors of which 2 with extra circle.
When the Ultrasoft (4), sorry, I mean Hypersoft (5) spins quickly, you also see an extra circle I think.
Also the same for the Hard Compound (1).

They had better keep the 5 original colors, that was easier to see.

no it won't, because it will only be called Hard, Medium, Soft during test and races

this is only for the testing, so that people know with what tyre the car set a time etc... (after testing you can forget about it).
during the races it is only white yellow red , chosen three of the 5 compounds.
Finishing races is important, but racing is more important.

Colourblind F1 fans are rejoicing over separating the graphics on the white / pink tyres! Or are they just both white now? Or pink? Still can't tell!

Just for a bit clarification: In 2019 there are gonna be 5 homologated compounds: C1, C2, C3, C4 and C5, from hardest to softest. At each race weekend teams will be given 3 different compounds like it's been until now and no matter which 3 of the 5 compounds above have been choosen, they will be white (hard), yellow (medium) and red (soft).
For example: In Monaco C3, C4 and C5 will be available, so C3 is gonna be white, C4 yellow and C5 red. For another race, let's say the hardest (C1, C2 and C3) compounds will be selected, so again, they will be named in this order: C1 white, C2 medium and C3 red.

Now to answer your question: After having read what I just wrote, you will probably understand the reason why there will be 5 compounds in testing. Well, because these are all homologated compounds for 2019 and teams can choose and test whichever they want. :)

Yeah, I was just questioning Capharol saying they will use Soft Medium and Hard in testing and races, when in testing we all know they will have 5 tyre compounds.

Seems like there are 3 times as many people who are not willing to spend additional costs to watch something they'd rather consume on free TV.

Personally, I'd stop watching F1 before I get Sky coverage. I don't care for any other sport (other than F1), so the £480 a year is overblown. Perhaps if I cared for Football as many people do, I'd get Sky, but most people I know (outside the UK) that are into football have zero interest in F1.

There's no argument against the quality broadcast Sky does - but if people are actually willing to pay for that marginally better content than what Channel4 or the BBC offered before them is highly unlikely. The numbers obviously back this up. At the end of the day, it's damn shame that F1 audience is shrinking, despite the show improving again.
Pretty much how I see it!

I emailed F1 TV asking what the logic was behind excluding the UK, their reply below.

"Thank you for contacting the F1 Team.

We are aware of how many fans we have in the UK and we assure you that we are working hard to add Live coverage in your region as well, but our hands are tied right now due to broadcasting rights.
As soon as we will have news about this subject (or if anything changes along the way), we will make sure to let our fans from the UK know about it.

If you have any other questions or thoughts that you would like to share with us, we would like to remind you that our team is at your disposal.

Have a great day,
Paul Gogu"

Sky has exclusive rights to show F1 in the UK. That's why you can't see it via F1 TV. I think Sky's contract has another 3 years to run. If there's anyone left in the UK that still wants to watch F1 by then, maybe we'll be able to.

I look forward to see how the industry develops if everyone adopts a “pay to view” philosophy.

Free television was brilliant because, like the internet, it allows everyone to tune in and watch unconditionally. Some people tuned in, liked what they saw and became fans. Some told their friends about it, and they too became fans.

Pay to view is the opposite of that. People not sure or who dont know, wont pay to find out. Only people who know what they get, end up signing up and paying.

You end up with a smaller viewing platform. This is bad for companies who are sponsors and only care about screen time and reaching as many people as possible. They’d rather have millions watching, rather than a few hundreth-thousand paying Sky viewers.
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II
