Alfa Romeo C38

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I meant purely from a design point of view. When was the last time we had a car design that was as different from the rest of the field?
The split airbox rollover fin on the Merc W01? The idea carried on as a less extreme version on the Force India VJM04 and Sauber/Alfa have had a version of it for the last few seasons. The W01 airbox was something else though.

Is the Alfa the only sharkfin free car?

McLaren has just a little one big enough to put the number 55 on it.

I wonder what the chances are that one of the bigger budget teams also has a radical wing ready to go for testing, but stuck a simple wing on for shakedown to try and keep it under wraps.

Could be.

But if none of the bigger teams has and they have to respond,I guess the individual responsible for that design may get a few job offers.

It could also end up being another "Wallruss" failure.

Who knows.

But encouraging to see Alfa/Saub being innovative and pushing their design.

Was surprised to hear that Scarbs thinks that the amount of wing is more than adequate for the downforce needed.

This was a journey from having the most eccentric FW to having a pretty simple and clear design, I feel.

There is a new inlet under the big sidepod inlet and the crash structure.
