Flo-viz test

No signs of detatchment on FW end-plate. Also note flo-viz pattern of foot-plate showing the formation of a vortex

Thank you for the pics and short explanation. But being the novice I am, I'm wondering on the front wing, the two upper elements barely have any flow-viz. It should be just that they didn't paint it right?

I think by that point the air is starting to detatch as it has been conditioned by the prior elements, creating a vortex to send farther rearwards.

There's just no paint there. Flow hitting the top of the front wing should be a 'no-brainer' as it's the first clean air hitting the car. Theres more interest in the underside of the wing where there's more interest in the underside where detachment is more likely to happen. Also keep in mind that the outer side of the win is not really supposed to create downforce. There's a lot of dirty air messing coming from above because of the rotating wheel which messes with the flow. That's why the last couple of ears there we all these fancy turning vanes at those positions, managing airflow is more important than downforce at that point.

I'm still wondering about the little shark fin extension for the driver's number. Did they not go to the full extent allowed by the regulations, or is there that allowed them to go beyond the permitted lenght just for that little area?
What would be the benefit of having a shorter shark fin than what is allowed?

If there is no benefit to a shark fin then there's no reason to put one there. But considering that after the rear wing was lowered everyone started using shark fins as large as possible, with the exception of Mercedes in 2017, I just don't see why now it isn't benefitial anymore.

Doesn't seem to be any flow issues back on the sidepod where the old kink was at the radiator edge any more either from what bit has travelled down there - but we'll have wait for some more flow vis further down the car/better photo's.

i want to say that mclaren didnt start tests with a sharkfin in either 2016 or 2017, only to have it before testing was over. i would be surprised if they dont at least try one.
