With the same PU, and extremely similar suspension, I would expect the better wing philosophy, and the knock-on aero design necessary to support it to be a huge differentiator between the two.
I'd be interested to hear how you came to this conclusion!
Given 2 different concepts, 1 will always prove to be superior by a margin. And changing mid season is nearly unaccomplishable.
No, I'm talking about how did you come to the conclusion that STR has the better design!

I didn't. My Dark Horse pick is STR because I "believe" they are right, and it is going to propel them to 3rd.

Teams have changed front wing designs in shorter time. With these 'simple' wings, I don't see a change to be that hard or very detrimental to the overall car design since the big difference is in the wing design around the front tire.

... and the barge boards, floor edge and diffuser. Not to mention rear brake ducts and suspension positioning.

It looks to me that Redbull will be much closer to the Merc and Ferrari cars this year .... however imo I think Renault have made huge gains this year and should be very competitive. I would not be at all surprised to see Dan & Nico both grab a lucky 2nd row start, more frequent 3rd rows starts and a couple of podiums each through the season.

If the Merc/Ferrari/RBR guy's make a meal of things (eg Seb & Max cant keep their heads together), I fully expect to see Dan & Nico pounce and maybe even grab a win each.

I think all we can really say is that the top 3 fight will be closer than ever AND Toro Rosso and Alfa Romeo will be the best of the rest with the occasional Renault. Williams will be bringing up the rear and McClaren won't make it past Q1 too often.

My bet:

1. Mercedes
2. Ferrari +0,2
3. RB(quite close) +0,4
4. Alfa Romeo +1,2
4. Renault +1,3
5. McLaren+ 1,6
6. Haas +1,6
7. Racing Point +1,7
8. TR +1,7
9.Williams +2,5

Ah, nice, a speculation topic!

To feed the discussion here, found an interessting quote from Gasly yesterday. As I see it he claims the Honda in the TR already has been opened up a bit more than the RB one...

Maybe for the section of the wing inside the tires.

Here motorsport uses Pirelli to estimate and compared best laps, with every car adjusted to C5 tyres..

Not really. He just tells that you can see a difference to last year by looking at how well Toro Rosso performs.

He says looking at TR it seems to be working pretty well and EVEN on my side I can feel the increased performance. Which in my opinion means TR and RB have been running different settings. And looking at the TR times it wouldn't be a big surprise if they have been running with a bit more performance unleashed.

If this is the case how do RB work out the management of this? Are TR told by corporate that they'll act as a season long testing platform? Pushing the Honda PU to find it's limits so that RB main do not have to.

I take it that he means that even in a different car, he can feel a difference over last years Honda PU.
