I don't know. I watched almost all of two practice sessions but not lissened speakers carefully.
In second session MM made almost 1 second faster laptime than Vinales's best testing time of 1.54.208. And Honda were best at max speeds. Teams look very close to each other but Honda looks strong. Yamaha and Suzuki also look strong (these are according to what I saw in first two practice sessions of course ) Ducati 3d or 4th if they can not develop in next sessions.

Awesome race.

So much for Vinales and his chest pumping pre race.

Another image of the swingarm winglet.
Its just forcing some air to cool the tire higher up behind the bodywork i suppose?

FIM has completely fu**** up MotoGP with Pirelli like tyres, since last year. Leaders are all riding 2 seconds a lap slower than they potentially could, only to save the tyres.
The body appendages, if not controlled, would make even MotoGP close racing like that of F1 and riders would struggle to follow each other.

Lorenzo's arrival at Honda should provide the world a reference of how difficult that Honda bike has been over the years, with which MM has been winning the championships. Both MM and Lorenzo went through critical surgeries and neither one of them were fit enough for winter tests. If Lorenzo doesn't get used to falling off the bike, like MM has been for the past couple of years, he would constantly end up at the tail of the group. There are some exciting rookie drivers who are extremely hungry and it would be a challenge for Lorenzo to beat them and come up.

It's amazing how I disagree with you in almost everyone of your posts.

If the tires lasted longer it wouldn't be better racing, you'd have Dovi and MM 10 seconds in front of the rest after 5 laps. How is this "--- up MotoGP" at all? Tires lasting the whole race is how it used to be, and you never had the top 5 in less than 1 second to the finish line.

The Honda was so bad that even the client team got 3rd with Crutchlow beating works Suzuki and Yamaha. Lorenzo was hovering around 10-15th place even at Ducati last year.

If I am correct there is a high pressure zone low down in front of the tyre and behind the winglet. I don't think this winglet generates downforce, so it could indeed be just for cooling.

As a visual spectacle the race bored me. The action ramped up only in the last 3 laps. But I don't think I can blame it all on the tires. Marc himself admitted he was happy to sit behind Dovi so that he could not get super tired. Also he said his bike was chewing up the front so he was glad for the slower pace. If he didn't have shoulder issues and if he did not have his front tire being chewed up he could have gone faster than Dovi. He had the fastest pace of all for a handful of laps but then his tires were getting destroyed as he demonstrated in free practice when he broke the lap record.
