It looked like in FP2 Ferrari was running the narrow engine cover of Barcelona again.
Nah, it's the same as Australia:

This picture is from FP1... I was talking about FP2.

It looks like this time Maranello came out with a monster of a car. Very impressed with the SF90.

Maybe the over cooling was more in regards to bodywork and shaping which compromised them in a way a switch or valve or computer control could not help?

Could the smaller aero footprint of the Ferrari front wing compared to the Merc be contributing to Ferrari's straight line speed in Bahrain, or is it down to mostly PU settings and management?

According to the data, Mercedes was faster (in qualifying) than Ferrari in single every corner except turn 2.

However, Ferrari gained 4 tenths on Mercedes on the straights. While Ferrari backed off their PUs a bit during the race in Melbourne, they did run them at full power for qualifying (they admitted this, and the GPS data from the weekend confirmed this).

And Ferrari did not have the same sort of straight-line advantage in Melbourne. When you couple that with the fact that Mercedes was faster in the corners in Bahrain, the Mercedes engineers (via AMuS) believe that Mercedes is running more rear downforce than Ferrari. They went a bit heavier on the downforce because they're hoping it helps with tire management.

Also, Haas, despite running Ferrari PUs, lost about 6 tenths to Ferrari on the straights. All of that evidence rules out the PU as the main differentiating factor.

In sum, it looks like Ferrari was able to achieve a very efficient setup for qualifying. If they're able to keep the tires alive with a little less downforce, that will really speak to the efficiency of the concept/platform.

I am not sure fully, but it seems SF90 have an interesting and unique profile of the front wing's endplate. unfortunately could not find closeup overhead views.

looks like the bottom curve doesnt the same with upper curve, the upper part is a bit tweaked outward, cmiiw

Well that was an academic example of vibration induced flutter, leading to dynamic overload of front wing struts.
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

SF90 Seems to be the fastest car overall, or widest operating window. However some trickery seems to be not working under the hood. They seem to walking a fine line with whatever that technology is under there.
For Sure!!

There has not been any upgrades on the car yet, right? So it can be told that it was the pre-season spec Ferrari which was the fastest in Bahrain. Let's see, if any new parts will be seen in China.

Looks like the team wanted to confirm the aero package is working before looking for updates. Or probably there are some in the pipeline but they wanted to be sure they're going in the right direction before introducing yet another variable.

Now they will be in the same position with the engine trying to make it reliable before getting more power out of it.

Tough season ahead but the car is fast, it seems.

It is most curious how they were so woeful in a straight line at the last race and have now turned up with a sizeable straight line performance advantage. This is all power.

They were running less downforce, this is why they were quick on the straights and slower in the corners.

Craig scarborough twitter account has a interesting drawing on where ferrari's speed came from.

Would that be the one about the clutch providing additional turbocharging?

Check the date...
