Red Bull RB15

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

If you look at the thread with the comparison of the 2018 and 2019 wings, you can see how the wake from the front wing doesn't get pushed far enough out with the Red Bull style wing. Mercedes have dropped the outer edge of theirs a bit and cut out the endplate, I assume to get just enough wake outside the car to continue sealing the edge of the floor.

The wing does generate strong vortices however, that can run along the entire length of the floor, so maybe they are looking at how that is effecting the edge of the floor for sealing.

I assume Mercedes figured out how to use both the barge boards and the front wing to seal that area of the car in tandem and as such, are having more success with it.

All these problems, Yar after year, just show that Newey has to forget about the drawing board and start using computers... ;)

Nope the car is a jewel. It's the new tyres and non optimal setup of car that has caused this poor showing. Maybe also the guy who will be driving today who has been on the sims helping tune the car, has been taking the car in the wrong direction.

Sure, and yet somehow the others get it right straight away each year and RB have to catch-up.

Amazing car it's just that it hard to drive, hard to setup, can't get tires to work and slower than last year. Other than that it is a jewel.

And the tyre usage, setup depends on aero. The car has flaws. Maybe they'll fix it by Spain, maybe not. I remember that two years ago (I think) a Hungarian update halfway through the year that that made them competitive. Even Vettel's last championship winning year RB wasn't extraordinary till around half-time.

Amazing that people think that Newey designs the car on his own...

Seems they are running a different enginecover with a ‘chimney’. Yesterday it seemed they were measuring airflow through their airbox. Maybe looking for ways to decrease its size?

Craig twittered about it.

Here you can see it from the front:

Looks like it's only opened towards the rearwing. Merc one was also open towards the top.

/edit
Look how the Y250 area is packed with an additional sensor grid.
