How many extra engines can they use for testing? Unlimited?

Honda is experimenting with new engine settings in Bahrain

Red Bull and Honda are going great at the start of this season. Certainly in view of the problems that Renault currently has, it can be said that the switch from Red Bull to Honda was a golden move. Yet there is always room for improvement. "We understand better how the engine behaves."
This quote comes from Honda's technical director, Masamitsu Motohashi. He states that the data that the team has collected so far from the two races allows the team to gain more insight into how the engine works under certain circumstances. "This is the first test session since Barcelona. It is useful to confirm the lessons we learned during the race weekends. This will help us to further optimize the engine for the coming races," says Motohashi.
Because this is a test, we can also experiment with a wider range of settings than during a racing weekend, "he continues." In this way we learn more about the behavior of the engine. "Thanks to the rain, the During the first test day not many laps were driven, but this morning both Albon and Ticktum managed to put down a good number of laps.
Verstappen positive after test day: 'We can do much better than what we have shown so far'. Stepping is positive about the tests in Bahrain.

Max Verstappen is satisfied with the results achieved so far during the tests. "We don't get too many days to get to know the car, it all goes by way too fast during a race weekend, so days like this help a lot. We know what did not work during the weekend in terms of grip, so we have tried to work on it. I think we have learned a lot. "

According to Autosport report there a little bit more of laps,
Albon: 143
Ticktum: 134
Kvyat: 111

Total laps: 388

Did we realize that in last 3 weeks Honda gathered information from 2 grand prix (4 drivers) and this test without mayor reliability issues, and all the information that all this represent.

If they in the last 2 years improve with the limited data of running a single team with all the reliability issues, I just don´t want to imagine how happy and exited the Honda engineers are right now with the data of this year.

Sorry when I posted the lap count, the session wasn't over and add the delay of web info, I am glad they got even more laps than I thought!

4 in racing

8? In Barcelona?

Pretty reliable

I don't think they used the race engine for the tests.

Yes, but still a good amount of laps in the baking heat, all I read on various forum before the season began was that Newey's packaging when they went to the hotter climates would be blowing up the Honda left and right, but so far they are the ones who haven't had any issues, long may it continue.

Knock on wood. My friend and I have some heated debates about Honda's performance, and I'm of the mind that things are looking fairly good from what we've seen. Always room for improvement, but RB's success is making McLaren's stint with Honda look even worse somehow.
