Guys what's your predictions for Baku? Will it be better than China for McLaren ?
Should be better...

Baku is more rear limited, and good for top speed so hope Mclaren can be best of the rest

McLaren are nearly below this group, but the jury is out on how good or bad their car is. In Australia, it was mega in the hands of their rookie Lando Norris but in China they were off the boil.

Carlos Sainz’s best effort on Saturday was only good for 14th on the grid but a massive 2.1 seconds off pole. For now, they have the benefit of the doubt, but in Baku there is nowhere to hide.

This seems to be an account of only last week’s Saturday. An average of the 3 races would’ve addressed the nuances better and shown that Mclaren would be 5th in qualy - behind Haas - and 4th in race. It’s just the incidents masquerading the true potential of the car. For instance Carlos would’ve been on for a podium on genuine pace in Bahrain without the crash/transmission issue, and in Shanghai he dragged a half broken car to P14 on an essential one-stop strategy after being about 40 sec behind the 18th placed FW42 after lap 1. No other midfield car has shown such promise, let alone challenge the top 3 on raw pace.

I totally agree, this analysis is highly flawed and misleading.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Baku on paper should be the best track for Mclaren so far, slow corners with traction retirement. Top 6 must be on target minimum, if not a podium.

Top 6 is a tall order! I would be really happy with a Top 8... We can’t forget that the likes of Haas and Alfa have a better engine and that even Racing Point with the Mercedes engine will be a threat in the long straights...

Really hoping the team has a chance to show it’s potential in Baku... A good Qualy is important if we want to avoid more first lap issues

Podium? Last time I checked, there were only 3 steps on the podium. Top 6 also a big ask, top 10 quali and points finish would be good..

It seems that when everything is clean, Sainz is considerbly faster than Norris.
But so far it hasnt been clean at all for Sainz
You should prefix that by saying "After 3 races in the 2019 season... We can say Sainz has been..." then is sound accurate

But yeah that is accurate

I wish I had more down votes so i can downvote every post continuing this back and forth verbal diarrhoea whether for or against McLaren concerning the Honda vs Renault argumet. It's off topic, completely unrelated to this season and does nothing to further any discussion. Do the children in the group mind creating a new topic somewhere else other than this thread where you can scream at each other?

On a more on topic note, unlucky guys. Can anyone give me a nutshell description of how Carlos was able to battle his way up to 14th? How was the race pace. I ended up turning off the box and went to sleep once the two cars got taken out.
According to the post-race data. Sainz was faster on pace compared to Ricciardo by nearly 8 seconds by the time the race was over. Considering the damage he sustained on the bargeboard area, that performance bodes well for the car's race pace.
He was on a one-stop whereas the rest had much fresher tyres.
He who ? Ricciardo or he Sainz ?

Haas and AR will get their faster pu, but nu in season development.

McLaren will keep improving the car, but Renault have not shown very good results from their B and C spec units. They make the best step each year with the Melbourne pu, maybe they can do better this year.
Not sure what they have planned ..it all depends ...

Not really, if they have a correlation issue you need to get to the bottom of that before you can even start bringing updates and working on setup, it sets your program back a long way.
I'd still bet on the horse that's won in the previous 9/10 seasons to fix a relatively much minor flaw. But maybe in the meantime Mclaren can outpace them in well-suited tracks. They have their own issues to solve as well.

In Gunther Steiner's words, it's hard to be worse. To be serious, yes, it will be better. Pace seemed to be decent in China, only hidden by bad qualifying and Lap 1 incidents.
I'm a wait and see kind of guy ... too many Variables to say. New track, New team mates, new drivers and hopefully new parts!.
