Ferrari the favourites. Bet though that Wolff and Lewis will magically win! Because they're just better!

It's nice to show up to a race as the underdog. So much less pressure.

Oh yes! Mercedes have been underdogs since the last 6 years. They just keep creating miracles apart from the odd weekend here and there where the almighty listens to other F1 teams.

Anyone know if Ferrari introducing new MGU-H /MGU-K and Turbo?
I read that the engine upgrade in Spain was just the ICE?

Canada is usually the track to take the first upgrades of the other components. Especially if merc bringing power unit spec 2 also.

Haven't heard anything yet, we'll see tomorrow.

That's true at least for Ferrari.

Mercedes don't turn into underdogs just because they tell so.

It seems to have worked that way over the last couple years.

Mercedes stays calm, cool, and quietly go about their business.

Ferrari makes tactical mistakes, or has some driver errors, and then get racked over the coals by the fans and press.

Every team in pretty much the entire history of the sport has downplayed their own potential (except probably McLaren). Because it sounds better, creates less pressure and no one really likes to listen to arrogant winners. Why is it that Mercedes/Toto is being singled out as an anomaly? Not that what they are actually saying doesnt have merit - they could well end up NOT winning. It could be a repeat of Bahrain, a race they clearly werent as dominant or fastest. Who knows? Toto doesnt. Neither does Ferrari. Neither do we, yet. Sit back and enjoy the ride. And for the likely event Mercedes might win again, there are still 18-19 other positions to watch out for this race.
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II

Because it's so blatantly incorrect that it smacks of disrespecting the intelligence of the fans.

Intelligent fans, knows the truth. Intelligent fans know the way Toto handles the media. When Intelligent fans know the reality, there is no question of feeling disrespected by Toto's downplaying the chances of his own team. I don't understand the reason for feeling disrespected or for being frustrated with Toto.

If anyone is expecting that Toto should come out like a WWE announcer and his team should enter the arena with all the Machismo, chest thumping and claiming that they would walk over the opponents, then they are watching the wrong sport.

The engine upgrade is very welcome,” he said. “Obviously it’s something we need to see physically how it actually behaves on-track and everything. We also need to make sure that it’s reliable. We’re expecting already from a fresh engine a tiny bit of power gain, but we’re expecting a small step forward. We don’t think it’s quite yet enough to match Ferrari’s straight-line speed. They will have the upper-hand on that, but we have our strengths in other areas. I look forward to feeling it on Friday.”

Indeed Friday practice, notably the second session, will give us the first real indication of how much of a step forward Mercedes have made. But it will also be the first time that Ferrari’s spec two power unit has really stretched its legs. Introduced in Spain and Monaco, the Prancing Horse will have gathered plenty of data and had the opportunity to prove reliability – but they will not yet have really demonstrated what the engine can do because the track characteristics of those circuits didn’t allow.

I thought the idea was for Ferrari to revert back to the spec 1 engine for Monaco.

Wouldn’t make sense to run the second spec ICE in Monaco. Put extra wear on the engine without it having a big effect on lap time around Monaco.

Hopefully today we can confirm if Ferrari are running spec 2 of the other PU components not just ICE.

wolf blatantly lied back in bahrain when he said australia was the outlier and bahrain would be the "real picture" of how the season would progress, performance wise. He new full well they have a massive advantage in slow speed corners (all corner really) and what kind of tracks were coming up, or do you really think the entire mercedes team is a bunch of fools who can't predict those things? Wolf has had zero credibility in the eyes of intelligent fans (since we're talking about them) for years now, and anyone still listening to his or hamilton's "hardest race" comments and taking them on face value needs a reality check.
