Honda Power Unit Hardware & Software

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

No, because STR didn't want both drivers starting from the end of the grid with 10 places gridpenalty.

Comparing the style of Tanabe`s words with previous statements my opinion is that power gain is significant. =D>

And, as a bonus, it gives us a benchmark.

I also think that is a benchmark for engine performance. Possibly also they want to keep Albon on this same engine to see if the planned longevity is actually there.

Last time they brought 15 hp in Baku they called it reliability upgrades nothing to fuss about so you wonder how much power will they bring to call it a real power upgrade

If the gap is estimated to be ~40hp then another 15 would leave a 25hp deficit, and a small improvement in the chassis would put Max close enough to challenge at all tracks. I honestly don't think they made that much inroads, 10hp and better MGU-H and turbo efficiency. Maybe they can generate a little more electrical energy per lap, so while it may not increase peak power it may improve the power band and fuel economy. Every little bit helps, a small improvement in drivability, needing to carry less fuel, all these things start adding up.

I think that Honda already have some secrets that others should not know. From this time on we will hear less and less numbers from them. If Redbull and Honda updates work fine they will challenge Mercs.

I've read on the verstappen forum the update is worth 30 kW - though not all of the power will available to use straight away.

Everyone has brought their power upgrades except Honda if they bring something like 25hp they can a least match Mercedes or be very very close . The aim as a package should be to clear Ferrari and split those Mercedes Bottas has looked venerable in the last two races

Yes now there are numbers
Peak power or race power? Which is most important for Redbull now?
30 kw is too much but if 25-30 extra hp and at least half of it for race long it is good. And think that this is first fruit of ihi partnership and they will make tweaks on it for more gain.

I think those numbers are plucked from some Bull droppings tbfh - Honda say even with the update they will still be noticably behind Merc on power, and I don't think they're currently 50kw+ extra down.
