Formula 1 VS Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters current car comparisons

Post

Here are the comparisons of Formula 1 car with Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters current cars:

Image
Formula 1 Car
Chassis: Carbon-fibre monocoque unique to each team and manufactured independently
Top speed: Approx. 225 mph
Engine: Turbocharged, 1.6-liter V-6
Horsepower: Approx. 760 (600 from engine and 160 from energy recovery systems)
Gearbox: Semi-automatic with eight forward gears plus reverse
Fuel: Unleaded racing gasoline
Tyres: Pirelli P Zero ungrooved racing slicks and Pirelli Cinturato grooved wet condition tyres
Weight: Maximum of 1,621 pounds (740 kilograms) without fuel, with 176 pounds (80 kilograms) coming from the driver, seat, and safety gear
Height: 37.40 inches maximum (95 centimeters)
Width: 78.74 inches, maximum (200 centimeters)

Image
Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters Car
Chassis: Carbon-fibre reinforced plastic monocoque with steel tubing roll cage. Independently manufactured by automobile makers
Top speed: Approx. 186 mph
Engine: Turbocharged, 2.0-liter Inline-4
Horsepower: Approx. 640 (610 from engine depending on turbo boost and 30 from push-to-pass)
Gearbox: Semi-automatic with six forward gears plus reverse
Fuel: Aral Ultimate 102 unleaded racing gasoline
Tyres: Hankook Ventus (ungrooved racing slicks and wet-condition tyres)
Wheelbase: 108 inches
Weight: Maximum of 2,174 pounds (986 kilograms) without fuel and driver, with 185 pounds (84 kilograms) coming from the driver, seat, fuel and safety gear
Length: 195 inches (including rear wing)
Height: 45-50 inches measured from identical reference plane
Width: 77 inches

So current DTM cars are faster than previous generation thanks to new engine regulations but still bit slower than F1 car. But DTM currently no hybrids meanwhile F1 has more hybrids. DTM still bearing a status as a "Formula 1 of Touring Car racing" because DTM is currently the fastest Touring Car racing tournament in Europe.

Any other opinions?

They call themselves "touring cars". But they look more like prototypes. Maybe the rear lights could be the same as the production model.

You are confusing maximum weight (there is none in racing) with minimum weight
True GOATs don’t need the help of superior material to win.

Tom Brady, Usain Bolt are true GOATs.

Prototype...maybe? But still a proper looking piece of race work. I still cannot get past the look of F1 with that HALO abortion afixed atop :o

F1 power units are closer to 1000bhp.

The comparison is also a little vanilla. There are way more things that make a difference to car performance than you've mentioned.

F1 would be quicker without the hybrid crap tho. So don't list it as an advantage.

But they would be saving fuel for the whole race.

I'm under the impression that they adjust the fuel limits so that they can almost go the entire distance without saving.

Let me doubt that. The efficiency of current F1 engines comes largely from the hybrid part. The only thing whick looks "anti-F1-ish" is the maximum power you are allowed to get from the batteries which is a joke. Proper racing means that you should be able to use as much as you can get.

If we go back, McLaren tried to introduce hybrid components somewhere around 1999 and these were immediately banned. So if there were no performance gains, the competitors would hardly vote against McLaren carrying additional weight.

No hybrid cars - 600kg, hybrid cars - 740kg. 120kw that they can't even use the whole time is not anywhere near enough to compensate 140kg. Now imagine being able to burn 140kg/hour more fuel instead of being hybrids. They would be easily over 2000hp and they would still be lighter during the race while they burn off all the fuel.

What's the purpose of burning vast amounts of fuel and having 2000 hp? One of the things which makes engineering exciting is to be as efficient as possible.

Covering distance with little fuel is not efficiency in F1. Efficiency is being fast. Even with current allowance of fuel the cars will be faster without the hybrid crap.

Efficiency in F1 is being fast using less fuel.
