History keeps coming back in this thread...

Short recap:
McLaren & Honda broke up. How or what doesn't matter. But it is (in competitive view) very beneficial for both parties.

Renault is Renault. They keep up with the engine development. But do not gain anything to catch up to the front runners.
And al the 'Engine news' is always PR/Diplomatic talk without 'hard promises'.

Before mentioned is just how it is. No sense to keep dragging on to that subject I think.
Time to close this chapter folks. It's for the history books.
There was no need for you, another person again, after pages and pages, to bring it up again disguised as some sort of closing summary.
F1 is dead.

Another Germany repeat and maybe with even more top contenders out and followers can reduce that gap right away. We also need to take under consideration that Renault engine and Mclaren hydraulics/gearbox are on the fragile side, so retirements and grid penalties are about to hit them.
That's why I said "realistically". I personally wouldn't mind if they lost out on 4th if it means that they get a headstart for 2020. I am not sure what goals the team has set for itself this year though. It is true that McLaren improved a lot this season compared to 2018, but they are not yet where they want to be. If sacrificing this 4th place this year means that they will be closer to the front in 2020, i'll take it.

The target was to end the year P4, as said by Carlos before the season started. He had said they were not too bothered where they started the year, because from all indications from testing, the midfield was close. But they want to be P4 by seasons end.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

its actually about the Chassis comparison between Renault and McLaren, and on why McLaren perfoms better then Renault.
they compare the Renault-Chassis with Ferrari, fast on the straight but lacking on the corners, whereas McLareen has more of a allrounder chassis, not the best on everything, but good enough to be 4th on the grid

I think they're one of the top teams when it comes to tires and this always keeps them in the hunt despite the car not being suited to the track on occasions.

I found it interesting the F1 Technical article on the upgrades comparison between Ferrari and Merc that they atritubited the last Ferrari bargeboard upgrade upgrade as a copy from mcLaren. I was pleasently surprised that McLaren was a leader in that area.

Also on the Renault Honda thing. I appologise if I got that started. I really was just trying to be factual and stay away from the emotion of it all.

If they think Mclaren pioneered the boomerang with the Mcl-34 then they're being incorrect, because a couple of teams have had it since 2018. I actually reckon Williams had it first on the FW41.

I thought RBR did. They were also the first to have the bi-plane bargeboards.

McLaren's supertime:
  • Spain: 102.562%
    Monaco: 101.783%
    Canada: 101.896%
    France: 101.244%
    Austria: 101.740%
    Britain: 101.159%
    Germany: 101.205%
    Hungary: 101.647%
While Renault is going into the 102%.

I'm probably not allowed to post the full article, but it's a good read.

They introduced it later on. Williams had it right from the beginning.
