Pirelli have been making these false promises and claims for years. Don't believe the hype. The have been promising wider working ranges since at least 2014.

The 2019 tires are the best they have provided since reentering F1, but don't hold your breath for them to be much better in 2020, it could bring back the blistering and chunking (and thus extreme tire conservation) of 2018.

Anyone could explain in details how they model tyre degradation into lap time deficit, and how they adjust it taking datas from other cars in live ?
I would assume it's much more sophisticated than just a linear function ...

Well this isn't a bad thing. I'm guessing the same compounds will be used in 2020 as well.

It means we will have a very good comparison between 2019 vs 2020 cars and how much they improved over the winter.

Pirelli's response to this is that the 2020 compounds were designed to be able to handle the increased performance expected from the 2020 cars. 2019 compounds now have to be able to handle quicker cars next season.

So are they going one step harder or what? Cornering speeds and race pace won't change too drastically, what will change if teams put more downforce on the cars, is that the tires will slide less and managing them will be easier.

If the tyres stay the same and downforce goes up the hysteresis energy input to the carcass on high speed straights will go up and it is possible that Pirelli will require higher tyre pressures. Higher tyre pressures will make it harder to get heat into the tyres and those teams with lower downforce will be hit once more.

Wont that be a good thing? coz now we wont have tyres which goes on and on for 50 laps and still do the fastest lap :D

They should just leave the pressure upto the teams, that would let all teams to be competitive

Devils advocate here.. so Pirelli supply tyres that are not acceptable to ALL the teams and thereby save themselves a huge amount of money developing tyres for next year. Now they just continue with what they have already invested in and what all the manufacturing side has already been producing. Continuity with the 2019 tyre must be quite a saving I would think 8) :wink: Not like the temptation to throw already previously designed not good enough tyres at the teams to test would be considered? I mean there is no competitor supplying tyres for a benchmark is there?

Just following the money......
