McLaren MCL34

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter does not belong here.

RE: the rear wishbones producing lift - in isolation perhaps, but it's accelerating flow over the top of the diffuser and turning the flow inwards
Maybe that's why I'm not in F1 design.

Apparently the diffuser has received another update which will soon be tested with flo-viz, according to Ted.

According to mclaren.com norris was initially using the test floor with light measuremnt underneath that sainz stopped on track with in suzuka, and it said no new items, but they could offcourse be lying, but thats why norris had a floor change

So, they only use that floor for 2 laps? How much data could they have after a couple of installation laps?... The change was really quick though.

If it's flowvis then that's sufficient. It could be a floor that pushes the limits a little closer to stall conditions to check correlation between CFD/wind tunnel and reality. Basically checking how accurate their simulation models are to the real world. For a very general example, If the team finds out that their simulation models are on the conservative side then they know that perhaps they can push future aerodynamic designs harder for more downforce.

I like that even though McLaren has developed their car well this year it seems that they are doing a lot of knowledge gathering for next year as well with quite a few visible experimental parts that clearly weren't intended to ever be raced being tested.

If I unterstand that graph corect power limited means Corner with full throttle. This would suggest only ferrari running with more power. (or the others don't have the power)

The new engine cover wasn't used for the race.

Or they have more downforce which induces more drag that requires more power to maintain the speed...
