Re: 2019 United States Grand Prix - Austin, 1-3 November

Post

Unbeknownst to Hamilton, he inadvertently knocked the cover off of his brake bias switch on his first run in Q3 in Austin.

On his second Q3 lap, every time his hand touched the switch, he moved it in a manner that constantly made the brake bias worse.

"Lewis Hamilton hadn’t realised that he’d knocked the cover off his brake bias switch on his first Q3 run. It’s on the side of the steering wheel and normally he doesn’t actually change the setting much during the Austin lap. But he was puzzled that he was getting a bit of rear instability under braking. So he started moving it forward. But without the cover, unbeknown to him, it kept winding itself rearwards on his second run. That’s essentially why he qualified fifth.'

" Hamilton hadn’t yet realised the crucial contributory cause of his sub-par couple of laps in Q3. “Sometimes you just don’t hit it. The start of my first lap was going really well but then I lost time on the exits of Turn 11, 12 and 13. On my second I abandoned after I lost a load of time at Turn Eight.” Subsequent investigation by the team centred around why his brake bias was constantly changing, as revealed on the telemetry. It was only then it was realised that he had inadvertently knocked off the bias switch cover, thereby allowing the bias to change whenever his hand made contact with it."

I think one member that's been posting in this thread very regular just needs to admit they're not a Hamilton fan and a stealth Bottas fan!
Exactly lol, for a Hamilton fan, he has barely said much about his 6th title

Thanks. That provides some perspective of his qualifying struggle, especially in COTA where he goes so strong.

Puts Bottas's supposedly amazing lap in context. Hamilton, with a car that was getting increasingly unstable as the lap went on, was only 3 tenths behind. With a "normal" car, Hamilton would have been on pole, quite simply.

Lol, it doesn't take much does it. These cars, they're prototypes but it all has to be so unbelievably knife edge perfect

Valtteri was perfect. When something went wrong for Lewis, he was there beating the Ferraris and Max. Don't get sucked in by that multi account troll, he was fishing for what'd give him a conversation and VB supposedly being better than LH turned out to be it, is all :)

Max really stood out in turn 6 and Lec smashed turn 19.
Lec is down 5km/h on Vettel before turn 12 maybe due to his older engine but he is faster in almost all slower corners.

This is a trend in Vettel's entire career. Give him the fastest car, he will win and tell quotes which the fans want to hear. But it is frustrating, that his championships will misleadingly give suggestion that he is one of the 5 best racers of all time, while it is questionable if he is one of the 5 best racers on the grid.
It is about as frustrating as Hamilton being mentioned somewhere close to Michael Schumacher. 5 out of the 6 titles came from the the most dominant F1 car that the world has seen in the last 40 years. And the teammates always came a comfortable second. With Vettel that was never the case. And Schumacher did stuff in outperforming his car that no driver of today's F1 could even think of.

Uhu, if it was driver's cicruit Suzuka that would have been understandable. Although let me check (Q):
2014 Rosberg
2015 Rosberg
2016 Hamilton.
Hmm, it's not 3:0 so I guess it's strong :? . Maybe some parts falling (didn't check) :? .

I missed the amount of time lost because of the brake thing which is convinient, it can be a tenth or two or maybe four? There's no way of telling. Regardless, at least it wasn't one "small" mistake as a conclusion of scientific side by side lap analysis proved in some earlier post.

Short memory? How about 2017 and 2018? You omit it for the convenience of your view point? How many races did Rosberg win in US? Exactly zero.

I was going to reply and point out some errors in his post but thought better of it. So obvious a trolling post, isnt it?

Watch out, the 'Hamilton' fan will be on your case

Seriously though, that must have been a strange lap if he was putting the brake bias one way trying to solve a small issue, only for it to be getting worse!

Wins at COTA:

Hamilton - 5.

Vettel - 1.

Literally everyone else - 0.
