Well at least i'm first on that one :D The thing is, Fusion 360 doesn't open the templates as where should it be and i have no clue how to fix it.
Oh, I see. You should have asked on the forum, we would probably have found a solution. Now its over, but you should get this sorted out for next year, as your cars always look very well designed.

If we made a mistake, you can protest it. I just checked, it would only bump you up one position though.

Hi !

I promised last week to do some CFD simulation of early 90 ´s F1 cars. I use Ferrari F1 from 1993 as basic.

Some key features on aero in early 90 ´s:

1.Flat bottom up to rear wheels where rear diffuser start
2.Exhaust blown diffuser
3.Simple splitter ( first car to have it was Tyrrell 019 from 1990 )
4.Front wing endplate extensions ( Adrian Newey inovation from 1991 on Williams FW14 )
5.Multi element rear wing ( my cars has 6 elements )

- I believe I used front and rear wing foil from Leyton House (year 1990 - 1992)
- diffuser is linear (not complex 3D shape )
- car has cooler and engine bay flow ( 3,5 L V12 engine )

CDA = 1,354
CLA= -2,525
L/D= 1,865
CLA front= 35,9%
Coolers flow= 1,2 m3/sec

This is after 1,5 week of development. There is big potencial to improve . Maybe I will continue to explore aero potencial of those cars. I think it can be easly improved to CLA about 3,5 and more .

1990's Tyrrell had a peak CzS over 4.5 with minimum ~3.9 with all the rule changes. CxS was 1.3 to 1.7, again depending on years and rules, from Gascoyne and Agathangelou for a Barcelona type medium DF circuit.

EDIT: Not meant as criticism just as a point of reference!

This is cool. It is interesting to see that there is such low pressure at the diffuser but not at the leading edge of the floor. Maybe you could create some streamlines to show from where the diffuser gets fed with air.
Also how accurately did you model the car? Did you use real dimensions or just eyeballed it?

Maim aero devices are modeled precise according to 1993 rules and the rest is also quite accurate.

This weekend Im away from my computing PC so I will post streamlines on monday.
A forgot to mentioned that ride height is 25mm with zero rake angle.

I actually really like this project. It is something archeological but about F1 cars and the kind I really like.

It looks like CAEdevice and OKRacing had a good look at each others cars. JJR is the only one letting the air exit the radiator ducts from below, which is an interesting solution. Somehow I have the feeling that the CAEdev and OKR solution is the way to go. The small wing seems to direct the air in a favorable direction and the suction below probably helps extract the air from the duct. The two can probably tell us more.

Im sorry if this has been covered, are there differences in the mesh quality between the standard dev Mantium (what we use while modelling our cars) and what is used for the competition?
A kiwi looking to fly like McLaren.

No, the mesh settings are the same. The only difference should be the number of iterations (4000 instead of 2500).

Yes, the main function is to generate a small but not negligible suction (it increases the cooling flow a bit, from 3.0 to 3.1 m^3/s). It also isolates the rear wing from the cooling and bargeboard effects, and this makes the rear wing optimisation simpler.
On the contrary, it gives, by itself, much less df than I hoped.
