McLaren MCL35 Speculation Thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Can't believe you guys haven't posted this yet. People in the comments are guessing that there may be more black on the MCL35's livery. Could be a possibility because of the expansion of the BAT sponsorship. Looks like the tub to me, not absolutely sure.

No Black in BAT's official colors...
The British American Tobacco Logo Colors with Hex & RGB Codes has 2 colors which are Orange-Yellow (#FAB41E) and Yale Blue (#17468B) - as per Logo below.

Yeah, that's why it was hard for me to believe that the black seen in the picture was part of the livery. Not only that the McLaren worker is holding what looks like a powered wrench.

Picture of the Indycar Mclaren at CES this week... Does it seem that they are going for a Matte Paint? Will the MCL35 use a Matte Paint scheme?

It could be useful in reducing weight. They could also be planning to leave any black sections of the car bare carbon.
In my view, it is almost certain that virtually every car next year (maybe except Williams) will have matte paint. The fact that Mclaren switched to more matte black half way through the season is a sign that the aero and weight gains are too good to ignore.
Weight is surprisingly not often an issue with F1 cars of recent years. Most manage to comply with the minimum requirements set by the technical regulations. Ferrari used matte paint partly because of reportedly some new materials in the piston/rods' constitution which made them heavier and Williams leaves essentially the whole underbody bare carbon due to primordial metal chassis components like the suspension arms. There's probably not much further compactness to be achieved in the ballast materials.

It's primarily an aero driven formula. So you mostly focus on narrowing the packaging and conditioning the air flow instead of fretting about CoG & weight etc.

Similar forms. Oblique cut, gives a large area of the hole.

Could this be a wind tunnel model in the background? (Considering Ivan is a Senior Aerodynamicist at McLaren)
But WT models usually haven't CF-parts, have they?

I had a feeling Mclaren might be the next stop for Unilever after they quit their sponsorship of Williams. Zak Brown really takes no prisoners when it comes to business :)

Williams poached Unilever from Lotus when they went down the gutter, now Williams is there and Mclaren poached the sponsorship, hopefully they dont inherit the aparent curse as well.

But i must say, i am a little baffled by the technical aspect of the partnership.
If i would get the money to start my own F1 team, i would revive Arrows

This partnership will focus on materials. From Motorsport.com:

"The deal between McLaren and Unilever will result in the two companies working together on projects that includes areas such as material science, sensor technology and the creation of an Engineering Academy."

And it's even less surprising when taking into perspective that Zak Brown brokered all 3 Deals (Lotus, Williams and now Macca). His Relationship to Unilever seems good.

but *Modmodeon*This is really more a Topic for the Team Thread*Modmodeoff*
