Breaking news: billionaire Stroll takes major stake in Aston Martin

A consortium led by billionaire Lawrence Stroll has bought a 16.7% stake in Aston Martin for £182 million.

The deal, confirmed this morning by a filing with the London Stock Exchange and exclusively revealed by Autocar last year, also includes a £318 million cash infusion through a new rights issue, giving the British car maker a £500 million boost.

Stroll also owns the Racing Point F1 team, which under the terms of the new deal will be rebranded as the Aston Martin F1 works team from 2021 onwards.

bad investment.
Finishing races is important, but racing is more important.

This must be why he chose such a non-name like Racing Point when he took over. It's great news afaic, Lawrence is a proper racing guy and is seriously investing and although some of it is about his son it can't all be. It'll be a real car manufacturer with its real F1 team, and a historic sports car brand even =D>

If he was a proper racing guy, he would hire proper racing drivers

The lengths this guy goes just to give his son a seat in f1

Iconic livery on the cards?

Also, surely Red Bull will just become Honda Red Bull now? Surely best for both parties.

Aston Martin is still a brand with recognition and heritage globally... Sounds like a good investment for him... The fact that he also has the ability to utilize this new investment to advertise in his F1 team is also great for him and the sport... Which adds another car manufacturer to the realm.

Keep in mind guys that the world of cars is changing. The world where he has to find a V12 masterpiece for his car is slipping away.
With a company history of luxury sporting coachbuilt interiors, he has many choices of which path he goes down.
Which ever it is, F1 is a good eyecatcher for him

So Aston Martin works team will use Mercedes engines or can we expect Aston Martin engines at some point?

Nope will be Merc engines until the engine regulations change. It's way too expensive to build an engine from scratch

I would think they’ll be rebadged engines
