I have Mercedes being capable of a 14.9-15.1 if they let loose on C3's. Red Bull 15.1-15.3. The tide could turn come Melbourne, or on any track depending on any number of factors. Right now Mercedes has regained its low speed corner advantage but lost it's high speed corner advantage relative to Red Bull. The power units are almost dead even, pretty much nothing to choose between them over one lap, over a race distance the Mercedes still has a slight edge. If Red Bull can creep a tenth on Mercedes, oh boy.

At least that's my impression. I could be way off, and Mercedes can do 14.5 and it's over before it started.

i was thinking Ferrari were behind, but now it seems not, so i'm thinking it's going to be a racers' season with the cars themselves very close: all about setup, strategy, pitstops and driving. And reliability, but mainly the racing itself. It'll vary from race to race and be generally awesome :)

So basically we've come to the conclusion that it's Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull that will be the contenders.

In my experience, that and 4 quarters will give you $1.

You don't know until a few races in. After they've had a chance to run on a few different type tracks.

Teams found 0.7 extra last year when cars were supposed to be slower than year before. The previous 2 years they were 3 secs year on year

This year pole will be closer to 1.14.0

Not projecting Barcelona GP 2020 pole time, just trying to read what could be best lap for each team last week. I agree with low 14.0 for GP pole.

Mercedes has two serious engine failures if they can't fix it in time they would be running detuned for the first races so it's not forgone they would top dog.Honda has made another big step on party mode according to Rbr so these could be decisive at least while merc is still limping.

You welcome.Everyone is making predictions based on Guesswork what I wrote is nothing controversial Andy cowell has already iterated that they have realibility issues and indeed they had engine damage with Bottas and an issue with Williams.

What I find appalling is the level of journalism in f1. Vettel had a slight break down with engine and the media lash onto Ferrari like a rash then Mercedes have the same realibility issues and they slip under the radar,no bitching no recriminations.

50% reasoning 50% guesswork 100% fictional.

1. Mercedes.
2. RedBull
3. Ferrari
4. Renault
5. Mclaren
6. Racing Point
7. Alpha Tauri
8. Alfa Romeo
9. Haas
10. Williams.

1,2,3 in a fierce close battle.
4,5,6 with half a second down just as comptetitive.
7,8,9 intermixing with positions 5 and 6 but in general strenght in this area.
10. Williams in no-man's land to the back with no positive prospect except for an occasional sniff of a point when half the fleid drops away.

I'm inclined to think that if Merc DID NOT have the DAS-system, that RedBull and Ferrari could get them by 'surprise' in melbourne, and perhaps see a RedBull win, a Mercedes 2nd and Ferrari 3rd. DAS will keep them at the front though.
After the summer break, it's gonna be full on war.

SO what's the estimated performance differentiating DAS and non-DAS on Mercedes according you? No one seems to have a clue about it yet. No one even seems to know exactly what is the benefit of DAS. The debate is still on as to if that is in violation of parc-ferme in qualifying. If yes, then it might be a race only system. For Melbourne, it's all about qualifying position and a good start that matters. Don't you think you have over-estimated the DAS performance impact, unless you have a very clear idea?
