A group at Oxford and Kings Universities have designed and prototyped a simple ventilator in a week. It’s very simple, not like the specialist ventilators in ICU wards. It’s been presented to the U.K. decision makers. I wonder how long they will need to make a decision?

Terrific, it sounds like they really have nailed it.

Having a ventilator would give one a better fighting chance than if that person doesn't have one. This goes for both young and old patients. When you don't have enough ventilators, you end up having to make a choice on who gets it, or maybe you won't have a choice anymore. In that case, more people would die.

This is just one of those things that makes you wonder why he hasn't been fired long ago..............
“He [Max] told me on the phone he was terrified of getting the virus,” Marko said.

“The best thing would be if he got infected now, he’s 22, it’s not at a high risk and he would be in a better place for the run to the title later being already immune.”
https://www.planetf1.com/news/max-verst ... navirus-2/
.
that is not what the original interview is saying ..... like at all, not 1 word about Max Verstappen.

but from planetf1 you can't expect anything else ....

the full translated interview in "Krone Zeitung"
"Krone": How do you experience this dramatic time?
Helmut Marko: No people on the streets, hardly any cars. We have closed the hotels, there is no income. Nobody had such a scenario in view with all the economic risks.
.................
You quoted an interview from 21.3, but there was another one on 23.03 where Marko said it.

21.03.2020 07:44 Helmut Marko: "People have to take courage again"
https://www.krone.at/2121265

23.03.2020 07:51 Red Bull Star Verstappen: With fear in the simulator
https://www.krone.at/2122223

Red Bulls Head of Motorsport Dr. Helmut Marko on the emotional world of his superstar Max Verstappen. "He told me on the phone that he was terrified of being infected," said the Styrian, who advised the Dutchman with a wink: "The best thing is that he is infected now. At 22, he is not a risk taker, but after that he would be immune to his title trip. ”

Cool that it's basically based on a manual ventilator. Very pragmatic.

So it was a jokey tease really? Helmut gets a bad press i think. Niki used to like him, he's a good guy imo just tough af :)

Still wink or not it's not a bad concept if you ask me, necessarily

[aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa]

As expected there's no downward trend in Germany, that'll take a bit more time ...

+3725 new cases, consistent with Friday and Monday, a lot higher than the numbers from the weekend
You realized, that they changed the criteria yesterday? New counting rules are on the RKI website. Since this week they not only count positive tests, but also all contact persons with respiratory symptoms.
One can, of course, say that this is the more correct way to do it, but that also makes the numbers incomparable and raises the number starting this week.

Did they report the cases on time? That alone was responsible for a few of the earlier "low" numbers on some sites. They just missed the GMT deadline when the sites were updated.
I mentioned this in my previous post

The RKI data (by their own [admission]) lags behind because they wait until that data has gone through all the official channels and that may take some time, local health authorities also don't work on weekends so the data will always be a bit off
In general the actual numbers will be a bit skewed, a few slipping into the next day etc but they still give a decent overview i think...
This is not correct. The numbers are always counted on the day of the test, also if they are recorded later.
This is a point which I do not understand: Our politicians run their admin at full power over the weekend. There is no quarantine, there is no question about working on the weekend just to organize their TV appearances.
On the other hand they do no organize a 24/7 service to record the numbers and to give them a good basis for decisions, which would be easy and covered by the law....this tells us how the priorities lie...

The numbers will be incomparable anyway, due to the fact that there's a threshold of how many people can be tested. Tests are limited, staff to do those tests are limited, the time required to process those tests are limited. Once that threshold is reached for a particular region, you're limited in how many you can count, hence the number no longer is accurate.

It's a very different problem to test hundredths of people in a day or thousands, if not ten-thousands.
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II

There's quite an interesting item on Iceland. https://grapevine.is/news/2020/03/24/pa ... n-iceland/

they reckon 1% of the population has been infected, and they've found 40 mutations including one person with two different versions

I've seen a theory that as it keeps mutating it'll tend to become less lethal, because that's a better reproduction strategy

The longer this goes on the harder it will be for Hamilton to match and break Schumacher's records.

I think the opposite to be fair, if the Merc chassis is as good as what is rumoured this year, and thereby next year as well due to the chassis freeze then I'd say Hamilton is almost a Schu in (lol I'm sorry) for titles 7 and 8.
