New polymers/ceramics/glass

Post

I need to write a research paper on a new material developed in the last two years, and have no idea where to start. We must choose a topic that hasnt been done by a previous years students and cannot be older than 2018. Anyone have some pointers?

My first thought would be the ongoing development of nano tubes...

Single metal crystals?

This is pretty old technology used decades ago for aircraft turbine blades.

I suggest you to look at 3D printing materials, there should be something new there.

In this thread I showed a 3D printed ceramic piston. That was news to me.

I understand that; this article deals with single crystal foils.

I came across a polymer called Polydiketoenamine that was discovered last year. In the presence of strong acid it breaks down into it's two parent monomers and can be recycled without degradation unlike basically any other polymer that exists.

If you are looking for something out there, ionic liquids seem to have funny properties. But you are looking for something more solid, most likely.

I'm in Mechanical Engineering Technology so we mostly deal with solids

Maritimer --

You might try subscribing to Tech Briefs (from SAE) to get emails with various new materials announcements. I believe the following link will get you directly to a sign up page:

You can also go directly to the Technical Briefs homepage via:

Good luck selecting down to just a single topic!
