Well, at the moment they're right there aren't they?

Hmm.

Vettel alongside Hamilton @ Mercedes in 2021.
Definately a very powerfull combo for 2021, by many means the strongest pairing on the grid. 11 titles combined (if Lewis or Seb grabs the 2020 title), and with a stronger competitive field in 2020 and surely 2021 that might save them, even though I foresee Rosberg clashes.

Bottas to Aston Martin - Mercedes in 2021 alongside Stroll because of his experience.
Perez to Renault in 2021 to replace Ricciardo.

Hamilton to Aston Martin - Mercedes in 2022 to replace Stroll, and brings Toto Wolff with him, which has been the plan all along, and is why we see a pink Mercedes in 2020. as it's the base upon which we will see the 2022 contender. Newey brought to Aston Martin F1 racing team after his success with the RedBull - Aston Martin hypercar in a supportive or advisery role for Andrew Greene? Meaning we see Hamilton get paired to Bottas again (LOL). OR, Toto pulls a real hard one on Bottas, and only placed Bottas @ AMR so he can keep a seat warm for Lewis.

2022 onwards Hamilton wants to go for his 8th title, and AMR wants to have their first. The team (formerly Force India, RacingPoint) knows how to handle budget well and get the best from the least resources, and grabs all the best balls in the park (Hamilton, son Stroll as a former race winner and will play Bottas/Barrichello role, Newey advising Greene to help the F1 project and in return also work on the LMP1 and street car aresenal, Lawrence Stroll and co to finance the whole thing, Toto Wolff alongside Otmar imitating the successfull former Lauda-Wolff combo, the former WCC winning 2019 Mercedes as a 'present' for 2020 so they can build a base for a 2022 contender.)
AMR will fit Hamilton's image very very well, gives him total freedom, without the Merc' corporate structure, and STILL win with Mercedes power, so it's STILL a WIN-WIN for Mercedes themselves, who have much to thank Hamilton (and Wolff). They have their German WDC.

so 2022 would then see :

Aston Martin Racing - Mercedes
1. Hamilton
2. Stroll / Bottas

AMG Mercedes F1 Team
1. Vettel
2. Russell

Renault
1. Ocon
2. Perez

ETC.

I think a lot of pre-laid plans are going to have to change over the next couple of years. Manufacturers will have to change production plans, so sporting targets will change wit them

During the 92 season Prost (sitting out of the season after being booted by Ferrari) started talks with with someone at Renault(name escapes me) for him to comeback with Williams.
Renault pushed with Frank Williams for Prost to have a seat, Alain was essentially paid by Renault during the 93 season, which made Frank happy to oblige.
Mansell was blindsided by the news and a low offer from Frank Williams got offended and quit.
Don't know how the negotiations went, but i assume a big time hardball from Frank.

Senna was somehow blocked from the other seat for year one.

Williams had world champion Nigel Mansell, "best in the world" Ayrton Senna as options but semi retired Alain Prost outmanouvered them from the shadows.

long term, vettel is 32 and lewis 35 if im not mistaken...but it does not look good for vettel because long term could also mean their drivers are already comfortable with the car, who knows, however what would contradict this is how racing point's drivers have already adapted to their 'new' car

If this is true, then I feel Seb was hard done by a bit in terms of how late he was told by the team. Also means he wasnt actually keen on leaving as some thought.

Yes. I remember them referring to Alonso as a pantomime villain, a Dick Dastardly
