Williams FW43

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The joints of the surfaces around driver's helmet look mismatched
That's called a manufacturing tolerance.
It looks like the headrest is slightly deformed or not quite fitted properly. It’s a big “panel gap” by F1 standards.
Will probably be taped before the real outing

I still don't get it, why they are the only team with the display not integrated into the steering wheel.
Does anybody know why they do it that way?

The headrest is a thin layer of kevlar over foam. It's easily deformed.

It makes the wheel lighter to turn, hence reducing stress on the driver in the race.

Don't they have power assisted wheels? If they're powered via a torque sensor, then it'll take the same amount of effort to turn the wheel whether it weighs 500 or 650 grams.

It is their thing and their unique feature, while majority of others use Mclaren steering wheels. Since it contains only buttons and switches, it might be a fraction cheaper and quicker to make.
If i would get the money to start my own F1 team, i would revive Arrows

I spoted something interesting looking at the new livery photos. The pitot tube for measuring air velocity over the car is missing. It was located between the ears on the nose. It will be interesting to see if it comes back come race weekend.

I doubt the driver preference is involved, but if it was me, and I had a choice, I would find it far more convenient having a display where it was last time I looked rather than upside down. OK, I am an old fart who did not learn on a computer, but I still think it is a better system, especially if you only have a tenth of a second for information to register while tilting.

Are there any more hi res pics? These are very nice. I went into the Williams site the day this livery was released and couldn't find good quality photos anywhere.
