Traditional F1 Livery Colours Per FIA, Nixed?

Post

I must 1stly ask that members kindly refrain from a contentious continuation here, of the the
(previously Admin locked) discussion of moral/political dramas per Mercedes-AMG livery, OK?

Back in the day, the FIA homologated 'National Colors' for international competitions, such as
the renowned 'British Racing Green' & 'Rossa Italia', but on the current F1 grid, does any team
still append these, apart from Ferrari (albeit via a 'Mission Willow'/Marlboro corporate red deal),
& until very recently, the Mercedes-AMG/Petronas outfit in 'German Silver' - traditional livery.

Funnily enough, the new livery selected by Mercedes-AMG/Petronas appears to impinge on the
FIA scheme reserved for New Zealand, that being NZ's 'National Colours' of black/silver, (as so
famously applied to the 1966 Le Mans winning Ford GT 7 litre driven so effectively by NZers).

Image

Does anyone know if this still amounts to anything, or if Team M-AMG/P are in fact impinging
on NZ prerogatives, & should've sought permission/approval, & so duly offered some form of
compensatory deal, such as sponsorship/contingency/drive, to a NZ driver/team or whatnot?

No I don't think McLaren should ask the FIA to use the Dutch colors or that Alfa Romeo is using the Swiss paint, or Lotus, Wolff, Arrows or Shadow in the past with their black livery's.

The FIA country colored livery are from before F1, when GP's were really GP's and not for the drivers but for the teams. So that Ford GT40 should be blue with a white stripe, not black.

No. The idea of that is just quite silly. What angle is the original post even coming from?

There are over 180 countries in the World. I can't see that so called National scheme working out in any scalable way. Imagine in the future when all countries are rich enough to field a car in Lemans or whatever, the only reasonable colour allocation would be to use the flags of the country. Its archaic and based on Nostalgia I would say. You would have half the grid in the dark green.

BRG is an exact mixed color. Not just dark green.
Code 284-8120: Light Brunswick Green 71%, Middle Brunswick Green 19%, White 7%, Black 3%.
I see so many restored MGs and such painted with the wrong green.

I thought the historical US national colours were white with a blue stripe? Doesn't it come from the days of the pre-war GP cars, where US cars would be painted white with blue chassis rails to differentiate themselves from the white painted German entries?

Actually, Bruce McLaren's conspicuous/brightly evident F1/CANAM
choice of 'papaya' orange is notably 'yellow-orange' in hue - compared
to the 'carrot orange' - of traditional Dutch prefence.

Per the 1966 Le Mans 24HR race, the three Ford 'factory' GT 7litre
entries featured markedly different livery for plain I.D. reasons,
as the famous 'formation finish' shows, with the Kiwi driver team
black/silver machine accompanied by powder blue/orange/white,
& gold/white cars...

don't know why the formula didn't copy... British Racing Green, Code 284-8120: Light Brunswick Green 71%, Middle Brunswick Green 19%, White 7%, Black 3%.

Ta Strad, & here's a jolly splendid example of a factory Jaguar in BRG,
a Walkingshaw Racing Group A XJS V12, being hammered by 'himself',
to emphatically nail pole position, at Bathurst, back in 1985.

'Turn it up' - as Lynyrd Skynyrd so aptly - put it...

They said he could have gone three seconds faster, but his balls was weighing down the car.

Yeah, gotta love how he revs the absolute bananas outa that beastly 'Pomgolian pus-bucket',
(& it sounds so 'Jaguar evocative' on many levels) but it seems a tad funny that ol' Tom appears to
be wearing bright red chrome leather welding gloves, maybe the feel gave him a steadier grasp?
Or were they a good luck charm? Who knows?

Anyone know if it is true that the expedition was because of a Β£1 bet between Walkinshaw and Brock?

Obviously Walkinshaw poached Holden's official "performance arm" certification from Mr. Brock's HDT business and replaced it with Walkinshaw's HSV shortly not long after, so if true, that went badly wrong for Mr. Brock (effectiveness or otherwise of energy polarisers not withstanding).

Replacing the HDT Brock Group A SS homologation car, with the HSV Group A Walkinshaw homologation car in the process -- no bodykit too lurid, all the finest fibreglass in the name of reducing drag & lift! :o

Hmm... This appears to have gone badly off-topic.

When Honda had the chance to race in their traditional Japanese national colours:

They decided to race in these colours instead:

So I'm not sure how much merit this whole national colour business has. :wtf:
