I thought it was the Direct Injector that truly unlocked the power of TJI.

Looks like a "daily driver" Ferrari...๐Ÿ˜

Unfortunately, I feel that the C8 Corvette @ $60k will eat most of this target market in the US.

I'm sure theyll hold on to the ttv8 as long as possible but eventually they're going fo have to switch to v6s and i4s. My guess is the next halo car will have a hybrid v6 unit.

The Corvette isn't in the target market for the Maserati. That's why there's 120k difference in the price tag.

Says you?

What is the direct competition to this Maserati? Just having a higher price tag doesn't move its category.๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„

I can make a shovel, and sell it for $50k, that doesn't make it a non-competitor to the $25 shovels on the market.๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…

If youโ€™re after a sportscar and youโ€™re thinking about a corvette (as in value for money), youโ€™re not the Alfa target audience (or Ferrariโ€™s, McLarenโ€™s or Porscheโ€™s).

Yes, says me.

No one thinks "hmm I've got 200k to drop on an exclusive sports car so I'll buy this cheap 60k one instead".

Also, the market the Maserati is in is the market for exotic Italian sports cars, not American muscle cars. They're different products for different markets chasing different customers at different price points. There is no competition between them in the marketplace.

Sure, there will be competition on the pages of magazines and in youtube drag race comparison videos, but that's not the same thing at all.

As for your shovels comparison - people buy $50 shovels when $25 shovels are available. The more expensive item will have an exclusive brand attached to it. Just like people buy $5000 Rolex watches when a $100 Seiko is available. The people buying the more expensive item aren't in the market for the cheap version. The expensive one is all they want.

How is an italian supercar with TJI in the same market segment as something 3 times cheaper.. with pushrods.

The same way people present their KIA โ€œwell, I thought about a Mercedes but a Kia has all the same stuffโ€

It's not just the engine, it's the different chassis (carbon tub vs aluminium space frame) and bodywork (carbon composite vs glass fibre composite).

Note: that's not to say bad things about aluminium chassis or glass fibre bodywork, but they come with a different price and, of course, a different price expectation (people expect it to be pricey). People will still pay extra for carbon fibre.

One place the Corvette will win will be engine noise, at least when bimbling around anyway. Who doesn't love a V8 rumble? =D> 8)

With a carbon chassis and bodywork, how did they manage to get it to weigh over 1500kg?

It's less than 1500kg, not more.

As with all modern cars (except ones designed by Gordon Murray) there is a lot of added weight from luxury and safety kit.

I do wonder why Murray is the only one making truly lightweight cars. Is it just because he cares about it so much or is it because doing it is really hard and very expensive.
