Lewis didn't beat Alonso he tied him and he never convincingly beat button. In fact in 2011 it was Jenson that spanked Lewis significantly. But your point is taken that Lewis has had harder teammates then Max and Charles.
He beat Alonso by virtue of being 2nd in the championship compared to Alonso being 3rd. That they had equal points is true, but on count back (equal wins but Hamilton had more 2nd place finishes), the rookie got it.

Button beat Hamilton one year in three, and did it well by making the most of Hamilton's domestic issues - which is perfectly fair. Interestingly, Hamilton was still the only non-RedBull driver to take a pole position in 2011 although he was unable to take the win (in Korea).

But otherwise, Hamilton beat Button 2 years out of 3. Beating Rosberg 3 years out of 4 (and effectively forcing him to retire having won the title).

Compared to Max - who hasn't faced a world champion in the same car, that doesn't seem to be a bad record. Charles had the measure of Seb last year and this year has the full focus of the team. Seb is in the Albon role - rather ironic considering his own days at RedBull.

Full credit to Hamilton for his magnificent dual achievement, in fact I am a bit surprised
that a dedicated thread has not been started yet to heap due praise on his career record,
or have I missed it, somewhere, c'mon 'Hammer-time for all-time' GOAT! (Caveat: modern era).

Isn't Lewis the only driver to win a race in every season he has competed in too

Yes.
Fangio won in all full seasons he competed in but in 1958 he attended some races which he never won.
Stewart comes close as well with only one winless season.

Ascari won a race every season if you count non-championship races, and a few others came close, but by 'official' standards indeed Hamilton is the only one.

Still, not directly relevant for the race topic ;).
Stroll being utterly out of control during his overtake attempt on Norris is a more relevant. Judging from all his movement, there was no way he would successfully land that one. Looked like a botched F1-2020 online attempt.

We are in an era now where one driver can break all the records if he gets lucky enough to find himself in the right team at the right time, and is capable of consistently beating only one driver: his teammate.

Hamilton has scored literally dozens of wins on the cheap. Just a Vettel did before him. Although, in fairness, it can be argued Schumi did the same thing. In some of his seasons (2002 comes to mind) the gap between the Ferrari and everyone else was gigantic and Schumi just had to keep Barichello in check.

The guys who stand out in this era are people like Piquet, Prost, Senna, Mansell. Not nearly as many cheap wins in their day.
It would depend on how a cheap win is defined.

A cheap win in my view, is a wind due to lucky circumstances. That is having a rival unable to compete due to circumstances not related to his driving or having a very weak competition.

Hamilton has not had any weak teammates so that leaves only wins down to safety cars, rival dnfs and the like, which he had only a few.

So if had to judge it, No, he has not had a significant number of "cheap wins."

F1 fans nowadays too easily dismiss the dificulties in being successful in F1 and operating at an elite level. Not many will like it, but the truth is Hamilton proved him self enough in 2007 and 2008 muchless at this stage in his career where has more wins than ten times leclerc and verstappen wins combined. Its ridiculous how some posters here make some really absent minded claims about who needs to proven. lol
Some time I think the best response would be to to just send them a link to this page and tell them to search for "Hamilton".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_F ... er_records
  • 262 consecutive race starts Rosberg is second with 206
  • 92 wins
  • 8 Hungarian grand prix wins
  • 97 poles
  • 8 Australian grand prix poles
  • 161 podium finishes
  • 4 different seasons with 17 podium finishes, Seb and Shumi each only have 1 17 podium season
  • races finished in the points 225
  • 45 consecutive points finishes
  • 932 consecutive points scored
  • 14.07 points per race average
  • 413 points in a season
  • 45 consecutive race finishes
  • 22 races where he has lead every lap
  • 159 races where he lead at least 1 lap
  • led for 25,2259 km
  • 57 pole and win in the same race
And those are just the major records where he has sole possession of, or is tied for first!
Some of the minor records are pretty wild when you try and put your head around them... 61.45% rate of podium finishes.

That's 161 F1 race trophies. :wtf:

But more importantly than the records IMO it's the names he has for company around his multiple records. Senna, Schumacher, Clark, Fangio keep popping up again and again. Not bad company when you consider what those names have in common. Being the greatest of their generation.

These are also quite literally the most expensive wins ever in the sport.

This also happened in football. In the 90s my local club was able to upset a bigger team every now and then. Now, no way. The big money rules the sport. Too big. Maybe even for F1 also as it cannot attract any new manufacturers, nor has it been able to keep the current.

To whom it may concern.. “please retire!!”

Honestly, if Russell has to sit a year out for this guy it will show everything that’s broken about F1!
Mercedes screwed Ocon... now Russel. disappointed with them and wasting their young talent. If he sits one year out of F1, he will struggle to in next year along with Ham. very much disappointed.

Kick botas out and bring back Russel.
So its OK to 'screw' Bottas?

Does that somehow make them not as good or valid then? I'm sure Prost's were at the time, and also Schumacher's. Probably Fangio's too, going all the way back to when he was racing.
And it will probably apply to the next big winner in F1 as well.

I don't see how Mercedes have screwed Russell. If anyone has, it's WIlliams if they cancel his contract, a year after refusing to release him from it.

It's unfortunate for Russell if they ditch him just for the money a different driver will bring in, (which is terrible but i guess understandable from Williams' point of view) but he will just likely be the Mercedes reserve/test driver for 2021 and then get his drive the year after.

Have another look at the standings for 2007. :) And Ham was a rookie, Alonso was 2 time champion, 6 poles vs 2... !

That is a beating.
