I really don't understand why in F1 we have the same noddy little fire extinguishers they have in primary schools, look at the guy fiddling to get the pin out, why does it even need a pin? It should just break the seal as soon as you squeeze the damn thing, shouldn't need to mess around like that. Also, what happened to the cockpit fire extinguishers, were they removed?

Anyone wanna take an educated guess at in what speed the car went into the barriers ?
Education is that which allows a nation free, independent, reputable life, and function as a high society; or it condemns it to captivity and poverty.

Spa 2012? The one where he just cut across the entire track and basically ran in to Hamilton who was minding his own business? There was no one near him, no one in front of him. He just went yeehaw! across the track.
I lost it at the last sentence.

I think I saw an acceleration of -54g mentioned, just to add to the information.

0.5mv^2 for the kinetic energy assuming 850kg car + fuel and then using 4185J/g for TNT, the energy was equivalent to 338g (or 0.75lb) of TNT.

Pointless comparison by me, but I did just wonder how much energy was involved (over 1.5MJ of kinetic energy, which sounds a lot but isn't when we remember that petrol has c.47MJ/kg available when burning).

Might be pointless, but very interesting. =D>

The Times UK claims Grosjean hit the barriers with 137 MPH, so that'd be 220 kph, so that's either a pretty eagle scharp guess or not a guess at all :P

It's amazing that in addition to all that, he also had the clarity of thought to think of the fans, teams and other drivers and find a way to reassure them that he is ok.

Grosjean is a danger to himself and others. He just doesn't have any proximal awareness. Glad he survived. I like his speed and as a character, but his retirement from F1 is for the best.

ah come on and stop jumping in on the 'bash grosjean' bandwagon.
he's not the first, not the last, and guys like Magnussen have done stupid things too,
and so definately has Verstappen.

If Kvyat was only a noselength further behind - which probably Grosjean thought - nothing would have happened and Grosjean would have been applauded for swiftly moving aside and certainly taking over that bunch of cars into the next corner.

Kvyat's collision with Stroll was by itself far more dangerous especially the move itself concidering how stupid he was not leaving Stroll, clearly, widely ahead, any space, and diving into a point in the corner where there was no room to even go into, there was a pillar for crying out loud and he simply pointed his car there without braking enough.
Quite frankly, Kvyat's had much more brainfart moves than Grosjean.
