I am very thankful they're not buying Honda. That car last year needs to be picked up by Xzibit, taken to West Coast Customs and be featured in the next episode of Pimp My Car. Imagine the publicity they'd be getting. If anything, they'll get a better paint job than what they had last year.

Proving that American technology, American drivers and the American competitive spirit can compete and win on the F1 global stage has been our mission for several years now.
What took them so long is what i'm thinking of. We even have to wait for another year. I'm also curious what engine they will run. It's a good thing though they finally have the balls to challenge in F1 instead of just big talk.

I can see this ending in tears.

It is kind of ironic, when BAR bought Tyrell, after the grid entry, the most valuable thing Tyrell had were its people... who BAR promply laid off.

Some of those people went to Jordan, and helped them to their great '99 season. Most of the others went to Honda, whose test program was turning up very impressive results before Honda pulled the plug.

If USF1 are serious, they would do well to stow the patriotic BS, and buy the Honda F1 team for a quid then stump up the $40 million for the year. What they get and learn would be cheap at twice the price.

Why assume they "cannot"? VERY few have made the attempt, right?
Well, I have a few American favorites that "want to make the effort". Short list:
IMO, to miss Marco Andretti is a mistake....definitely fast, tested with Honda F1, did OK with IRL but obviously still need time to mature. He was also obviously dynamic in prototype whenever he got into the Acura LMP2 car in ALMS. His name also is going to open lots of doors in terms of sponsorship in US and abroad. IMO he might be more of a Mario than Michael in his talent, which is hopefully more promising...

And I think they should try to snatch up as much of Honda's asset as they can. Honda clearly have put money in that outfit and that investment clearly has some value even if their last 2 cars were POS...

mmm... I dont know... 21 inches rims are not allowed in F1, the DVD screen will disturb the air flow in the flat bottom and the huge stereo system is not good for weight and aerodynamics

Besides, up to what I know, they change the aspect of the car but the suspension, brakes and engine stills as crapy as it was

 Now Im thinking what would happen if Xibit pimps my ride. I would have to get a machinegun and kill all of West Coast Customs guys for ruining a perfectly balanced car with a ride height and tyres that could handle Argentinian potholes at high speed without even noticing, tell them at least to intall the DVD screen in a part of the car someone can actually watch it and beg my pardon to my friends for having such a metrosexual paintjob

Would that make much difference to the Honda?

It would still trundle around at the back...

I have to admit that mr Windsor had a point or two in a recent statement:

"If you are looking at a new operating ceiling financially, it is much more logical to approach that ceiling from zero and grow into it organically than it is to be running at $250m and have to trim your costs down to $65m and lay off lots of people. They've got their own management strategies and, if you start laying off people, you destroy what you had in the first place."

Seriously.

I won't apply. But, I think we will have a unique opportunity to see a transparent and media filled process of building a team. SpeedTV will no doubt move in with them. The result may be embarassing, or not. But the journey will be interesting.

The two guys were very relaxed and not very "F1 Like."

I was really thinking that they were a little bit further along than how they appeared in todays press conference. I was hoping for at least engine supplier but according to Ken Anderson they haven't even started talking with anyone as of yet. Interesting........ They will have to get it gear very very soon if they think they can get a decent car on the gird in 2010.
