Alpha Tauri AT02

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Idk. Was expecting more from honda. The packaging has improved but not enough. Look at mclaren, they went miles ahead in terms of packaging.
Ofc, it'll be better with redbull, but if you think that way then the mercs are definitely one step ahead no doubt about it
Mclaren had the opportunity to modify the monocoque and squeeze the coolers even more inside (IMO). If another team opts to do that, they'll need to spend the 2 tokens on the back of the monocoque.

Look at the aero complexity in the barge board area!

And they changed the rules not that long ago to allegedly get rid of this type of crap.

Fundamentally ugly car with bad proportions, and HUGE....but that's nothing new and nothing limited to Alpha Tauri.
When they simplified the front wing in 2019 I said they were crazy not to also simplify the bargeboards... depends on your POV I guess but I agree they're ugly.
Ugly and very fall-offable...
Avoiding which was whole ‘thing’ behind the simplification of the front wing for 2019.

Is it just me...or does this "blocky" looking AT02 look a bit like it had some Legos folks in the design process?

I am not saying such is bad, but way more straight lines and angular features than the svelte MCL.

Hidden it from who? It's nothing new, loads of teams have used that before.
You clearly arent seeing what im seeing! I haven't seen that before on a car! You would have to post what you think i am looking at on another car and I will say if we are seeing the same thing. 8)

If you come with a car from early 2000's and earlier it doesn't count! Haha.

Mclaren seems to me a bit longer with Mercedes, whereas AT and RB are shortest on the grid so it is not 1:1

They are two different sidepod/sidepod cover philosophies first and foremost, IMO

Actually it reminds me a little bit of this https://cdn-2.motorsport.com/images/mgl ... user-1.jpg
Because they cut the floor (more than what the rules demanded BTW) just in front of that thing

They wouldn’t spend tokens to only slightly modify a previous version, at least that’s what it always seemed like to me so this nose isn’t a surprise.

Nice tight nose and those wing flaps look very redbull-esque

Very similar to the 2015 Mercedes nose, would be curious to know how different the internal crash structure is.
