McLaren MCL35M

Do we know why Danny sat out the last 45 min of the session? Looks like the team was changing the floor?
He is running now, just before the break.

VSC and the session ended. Looks like tha sandstorm hit early. A lot of sand on track. I would say it was a good session for us.

I wonder if many other teams will have found this?

Apparently MCL32M hitting 330kph (same like Williams) on speed trap. Looks good for them PU wise.

It looks like no other team has either found this or were able to advantage of this loophole.

You can see the profile of what they have done in this shot

Mclaren’s seems to be the same from the Filming Day... Best shot I could find was from the cars photo shoot and Nicolas just posted one:

Hopefully they have more than one floor version to test
One would think so. It makes sense to start by baselining the basic version, while you run through the early program of checking the car out.
I could understand that philosophy, but with only 3 days of testing, you have to try and get correlation checked as fast as possible so that you have time to react.

But, you have a very valid point, they need to have a baseline to evaluate upgrades.

Ted Kravitz just said live that McLaren saying that "they have shaped their bodywork differently" so do not need/have an engine cover bump like AMR/Merc.

No disrespect to Ted, but you don't have to be a professional F1 pundit to figure that bit out.

The McLaren is fatter up there with other cooling ducts and ancillaries so you don't see it.

Fair point on Ted but I think there was some speculation on here about whether we are going to see a new engine cover at some point

The diffuser solution does seem to be unique to mclaren at the moment. Nice bit of innovation and thinking outside of the box of the design team.

Looks like mclaren cautious on cooling. I think they can (and should) close the back a bit. The Mercedes outlets are half the size.
