Mercedes Power Unit Hardware & Software

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

This is for the engine block mor than the liner.
Fatigue strength more likely improved.

On the sexy bulge.

Another possibilty is that the plenums are lower wider and biger, with maybe a stronger cross flow... For increased range of the VLIM.
The Aston Martin body works shows the bulge a bit more and the bulge seems to directly a top the engine than i thought before.

Perhaps the intercooler is in the intake plenum now. That ought to cut down on the piping which seems beneficial.

If your intercooler goes inside the intake, won't it be more harmful since it'll heat up the intake air to a certain extent

Intake plenum. Not the intake.

Yes correct. Intake air 'planum' is compressed air from turbo to cylinders. while intake air is intake air to compressor (before turbo).

Thomas basically confirms that the turbocharger and the parts relating to it have been modified to generate less heat load to the cooling system.

https://www.planetf1.com/news/mercedes- ... novations/

It means probably a more efficient compressor, or a less restrictive intake tract, or better intercooler, or even better turbocharger cooling... All we know is that the heat rejection from turbocharging has been reduced.
This should greatly help the other cooling systems of the engine to run cooler as well.

Actually it looks tiny and much smaller than 2014-2020 :!:

Yes they are lower and overall width looks bigger

So instead of forward-facing trumpets, they've gone for a curled-up set? That's what I think judging by the size and shape of the chambers. What do you think?

They used to have them set quite far back and routed them forward for the inlets. But I guess the ERS cooler pipework proved to win out and cut down the Z height in the rear area. I would be curious to better understand what's going on under the skin of these plenums.

It might also be that Mercedes has something up its sleeve, with what is believed to be a super-cooling system within the inlet plenum for short bursts of extra power.

Interesting. About how many hoursepowers are we probably talking here?
