Live timing says that Lando did 4 laps on his new Soft run vs. almost everyone else doing 3 laps (esp. in the top 5). maybe he had more fuel on board as well?

The braking zones for both McLaren's need to be improved. Are they sandbagging
Maybe you should consider the fact that the graph is comparing the car against --- Mercedes, the car that was on average at least a second faster last year. And McLaren is just 0.03 slower, it is not the end of the world ...

Lando just said he expects to fall back into the pack a bit tomorrow because he ‘showed a bit more than the others’ In FP2

Honestly, not surprised. There's no way they are on par with RedBull and Mercedes. It was way too big of a gap last year to close it so suddenly.

Hopefully they are towards the front in the "best of the rest" pack.

this could well happen but sounds like expectations mgmt. tbh -- the being "spooked" that Ted said the other day.

Those 39's for Norris and that 41 for Ric brings the average up a bit. I would say the "real" average is around 38.3 for McLaren, about 0.6s off Mercedes in race pace. That's ~0.3s better per lap on average compared to Abu Dhabi 2020

Based on this long run pace, will be interesting to see if we try to get into Q3 with Mediums for the firs time.

Would be interesting to analyze it versus FP2 of Bahrain last year, not in terms of lap time, but in terms of race pace gap... If Mclaren is in within 1 second of Mercedes / RBR, then it’s mission accomplished in terms of closing the gap to the front in 2021 :)

Interesting.

Not long till FP3, that will tell us where we are.
But it seems that right now we don't really have a scooby doo.
Give a man a fire, and he will be warm for a night.

That’s what I was referring to.
It’s only the first Friday of the season and it’s slightly annoying that he’s once again looking at his glass as half empty

...on the other hand, if he's just 0.1s off VER with an evil handling car that he's not yet on top off, the bodes well for when they dial everything in.
I really really doubt others were running much heavier/lower power than them but maybe that's just wishful thinking
