The car did look more twitchy during Lando's lap, but no doubt they're still exploring an optimal setup. That front end really grips up nicely though, Lando gets the car rotated really quickly, but the slightly nervous rear just causes him to hesitate getting back on the power. If they can dial that out then there are chunks of time to be found, you can visibly see it. It almost looks as if it's brake lift-off oversteer, possibly they're still dialing in the brake-by-wire on this Merc PU. Although, on his long run Lando did report a pushing issue on the PU (can't remember his exact words). May simply be that?

The only team with more sponsors in 21 vs 20

Please, do it with bars.
To do something well is so worthwhile that to die trying to do it better cannot be foolhardy. It would be a waste of life to do nothing with one's ability, for I feel that life is measured in achievement, not in years alone. ― Bruce McLaren

Yeah that's a good way to look at it, you are definitely right. Finding that time would give us a good boost.
Hopefully we can find it overnight. I suppose it could be the engine over pushing, and in turn 10 it looks that way, but on the exits of turn 13 and 14, it doesn't make so much sense.

Heres a bit more of Lando talking

https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/arti ... XVmNa.html

This has a bit more of a balance and a context to it. He laughs and says the problem is in most corners and the variables at play seem to be wind, temperature and fuel load. He suggested that the car has a wide range of issues, but is better in other areas.

He adds what has been said here, he hopes he can dial it out overnight.

Well we tended to find our form in P3 or later, so not much has changed !

from fp2, analysis

Again merc and rb fastests in the corners, rb especially impressive since max went for the lower df rw in fp2, but still looking good for mclaren

I think he said something about engine braking.

Yes, he said he didn’t like the way the braking system was set up, the engineer advised him to flip the toggle switch.

yeah it seems to be, i havent gone micro detail, but the updated version from late last year which they trialled, its not, so more or less last years

looking at theese very informative charts, it seem these are the corners(green) where mcl loose the most, the longer ones, does this suggest a weaker frontend/understeer problems

It could suggest a lower downforce setup. They are good on the straights. Perhaps coming from less powerful engine they are used to low DF setups.

Also if they are consistently slower at apex but faster at the end of the straight, it could mean they are taking a different line through a corner, getting that car rotated earlier and thus having longer run to the next corner which achieves higher top speed. Really hard to say really.

It's very interesting that Latifi described a similar pushing issue on the radio. A new Merc engine characteristic?

You make an interesting point. More power is obviously better, but not at the expense of driveability. Hopefully they can sort it out with some fine-tuning.

If that were the case they should be able to take it out of the engine maps. I guess it is possible the teams were given new maps for the race weekend and they aren't quite there, but still, looks like it is more than that on the Mclaren. What's not good is that it looks like it changes behaviour in the corner, which every driver doesn't like.

I worry, possibly needlessly, that the integrity of the floor seal isn't as good as it could be in certain corners, or certain situations. Hopefully whatever it is can be dialled out, or at least the conditions will be better for us today.

Ricciardo said it well. If both drivers are unhappy and they are P2 and P6, that's good news.

Hopefully they can have good step forward today, just like last year they used to make big steps overnight.
