Yes, it will be a tense race. Max is now faster but not by traditional Merc margins like we seen the last years. Often with 2 cars 0.6 to 1 second ahead.

Alonso has always impressed me by being able to get the max out of anything. He seems super-adaptable.

Having said that, it's way too early to write-off Perez, though it does seem that the Red Bull is hard to get to grips with, given Gasly, Albon, and maybe Perez (let's see after four races or so), have found it hard to get even vaguely (say 0.3s) close to Verstappen.
I think he will be there at race

For Perez first qualy they should have given him the Red tires...

But tomorrow he can definitely bounce back and chase the podium

Thats better. It is not good to watch without competition. If drivers fight for position it is not that important if same driver wins at the end

Finally some insight in the pecking order. Mega lap by Max, but definitely a mega step by Honda/Red Bull this winter. =D>

The pace is there, lets see they have also made big steps regarding reliability.

Certainly Etusch. But it likely will be very difficult te defeat Mercedes so let’s see.

I think difficult is good but we can not be sure yet. This track is where all teams had test so maybe some teams will drop a bit at next races. Maybe some of them were good at Q but will drop at race.
In fact if Redbull didn't have their issues last year they can still fight with merco closer. So this not only floor thing as Ham said. They were already closing the get no 1 team position, as pu and as chassis.
I think Ham showed that car better than it realy is. Now they have to push, they have to be at limit, they have to make good strategy( it is harder if you have not got 0.5 s per lap) Mercedes were good as car but not as strategically. Whatever I hope close battle, of course I prefer an end that vtec kicked in rivals.

Looks Red Bull with a little more top speed at the very end of the straights and a little bit higher apex & overall corner speed, but otherwise not a whole lot of difference between the cars?

Yes, the data certainly shows seeming parity between Honda and Mercedes power units -- if not even a slight advantage to the unit from Sakura. :D :D =D> =D> =D>

The top speed difference could be the Mercedes being a brick wall in terms of drag.

Toto Wolff: 'The Honda engine seems to have gotten a lot better. They have done very well in particular by releasing the electrical energy in the engine. In principle, we ran out of energy at the end of the round, but that did not bother Red Bull. They passed us by in that area. '

Perez didn't want that because he thought starting on the softs would be a big disadvantage. This is where you see the difference between a young driver like Albon and an experienced one like Perez. Albon would've taken Red Bull's suggestion to qualify on the softs, Checo said no he'll try and get though on mediums, we'll see whether his plan bears fruit

Perez changed ES and CE too... Hope it's precaution and those parts can be used lately. If not, they are in trouble...

So both Alpha's have had some changes and now Perez, you just watch, Ver is going to have some issue that will cost him the win. ☹️
