The 2008 cars went faster at the same time of the year. Lap records only count at events.

It's still good - just don't get all silly about it ;) :P

Stand corrected - now I realise I looked at the first page of this thread...and got the wrong circuit.

I don't get why eveyrone are putting their money on Button. In the same car, I'd take Wubens over Button. Button only is as good as the car, whereas Wubens actually can outdrive a shitty car, ergo, in a good car, I'd take Wubens.

I think your not taking into account that button pretty much gave up last year and before that whooped Wubens without problem :P

Thanks for the times - I've been looking for some of them.

Although "Best lap time in 2008 (2008 spec car)" was Felipe Massa with a 1:20.5...

From Massa

Q: Felipe, in two weeks the first Grand Prix will take place. Are you prepared for it?
Felipe: "I think that I am prepared for it and the team is ready as far as the preparation is concerned. We have done everything we wanted to and we brought all the elements which we wanted to bring. I would say that the season can start. Before this test it seemed a bit better, because the new Brawn-Team have suprised all of us. Before Barcelona we have had one of the fastest car on front of the oecking order. We continue to be fast, but only behind Brawn."
Q: Rubens has run under 1:19. Would you be able to drive such a time under quali conditions?
Felipe: " No. I think nobody could have run it."

All the doubters better start waking up to Brawn's pace otherwise they're in for a genuine shock come Melbourne.

I can't wait! I don't have any expectations for this team, but if they are fast this year I really hope Jenson can grab the WDC - he can finally justify all the apparent silly decisions he's made in the past.

Felipe: " No. I think nobody could have run it."

...and comments like that from other teams, is it really a "oh crap, we are in deep trouble" kind of reaction, or more of a "there is no way that is real" reaction? One would think, given the constraint(rules and regulation governing the envelope of design, which kinda governs what you can do with aero) and the available known variable(tire curve, engine power...etc), All the teams should know before the wheels touched the pavement, that where their car should perform. How likely is it, that Brawn found a full second over everybody's independently developed solution? Take the ever-so-magical inerter, thats not worth a whole second around the track, and that was really a have-or-have-not technology...

Where do I place my bet again?

If they are seriously that quick, they of ALL teams could get away with a KERS unit weight penalty.

Woe to the teams if BGP is in talks with Williams, McLaren or Marelli Magnetti for an off-the-shelf KERS system...
