They had Merc slightly ahead in Italy and Bahrain and we all know how that turned out.
The Race actually had Red Bull ahead in both Italy and Bahrain.
Yup they had Red Bull ahead in both the opening races, don't know why the usual suspects are trying to change the narrative again :wtf:

Why would any team give their underperforming driver the upgrades when he can’t get the most out of his existing machinery?

Stroll is Aston Martin's lead driver after all. Why would the second driver get the new parts? That would be unusual.

Looks like sadly the upgrades haven’t done much anyway.

After Paddy Lowe's interview and sandbagging stories on The Grid podcast, I have ZERO faith in the sob-story news that comes out of Mercedes.

Once again, their PR mouthpieces/fans have people believing they are NOT the fastest, even when they top the timesheets/pole positions/points...
If they were sandbagging at all they’d make sure they were only doing it enough to still win- as Lowe also said. Topping practice is meaningless and Hamilton only had a pole last time because Verstappen messed up his Q3 lap.
The powertrains have to make 9 races, plus some qualifying races. I’m surprised some of these teams run as much as they do at all in practice. They most certainly are not going all in power wise.
FP1 laps:
HAM 32, BOT 31, Total 63
VER 26, PER 22, Total 48

FP2 laps:
HAM 33, BOT 28, Total 61
VER 26, PER 28, Total 54

FP3 laps:
HAM 21, BOT 19, Total 40
VER 21, PER 25, Total 46

MERC 164 laps
RBR 148 laps (-10%)

Are RBR more confident on their simulations back at home, thus less running on the track or they just playing conservative regarding their ICE/PU milage?

Let’s wait until qualifying is over. RB does seem faster over a lap, and their race pace looked very good in FP2.

Observations

Honda has long 3rd gear and short 7th gear.

Max doing more left foot braking so i guess he has more confidence in rotating his car. Consistently braking later than HAM.

Mercedes seems to tuned the ERS for better accelartion more than top speed. Seems their gearing is more all rounded but Honda has it shorter up top probably to defend better or pass better.
Paul di Resta said in FP3 that Merc`s ICE has a little better traction due to shorter lower gears, hence their better tyre life ... and IMHO that`s why they couldn`t heat up their tyres faster than RB ...

1-2 for Red Bull. I think Max will get the pole, but it'd be good if Perez snacks in the last lap and gets it.

I believe Max had problems with the car (brake by wire etc) which meant that he had to take unscheduled time in the pits fixing things.

Don’t know what happened to Ricciardo but Norris is really outperforming him at the moment.
