Really old tires. They should have pitted before STR.

with old tyres starting the race, it was a 2 stops race, no brainer, bad strategy on Alonso team today.

Yep, good news is the car is getting faster, pit stops look good.

I guess they must have tried the hards in FP and couldn't get them to work cause they would have lasted longer....

Alonso's defending saved Ocon's points.

i agree looks like some 70 year old plus is in charge of strategy. too slow to react or understand grand situation. they should gone with 2 stop strategy with alonso.

Agreed, it was obvious really early on that Alonso wasn't gonna make it to the end.

They should have switched Ocon too.

Can't loose site of the fact that this is a preparation year for next year. So hopefully they're a young team that is learning.

after first pit stop they were obviously driving to delta trying to preserve tyres as long they could, so this strategy didn't show real race pace.
were they the only one on this strategy?

Well, that was disappointing. I don't understand why they did not at least try to split the strategy and give Alonso the more aggressive approach. Anyway, racepace was just not there today.

Alonso's pace compared to Portimao was not that good. He lost a noticeable amount of time to Ocon within a couple of laps at one point.

He says,

Ufff, I wanted to hold Russell behind at around 1 sec, after they passed Russell he knew it was over as strategy was suicide, to take the point. As when there were 20 laps left they decided not to stop. Also they didn't have the right balance with the soft tyres. But positive weekend from the car point of view as Portugal wasn't only a lucky weekend Montmelo has demostrated that the car has potential. That's what he says more or less

Shame about the strategy, but they seem to be going in the right direction.

From quali onboard footage I got the impression that the car was lacking traction on corner exit.
It would be nice if they could improve this for the Monaco GP. (Probably some changes to the diff and suspension settings, since the balance seems OK?)

I believe soft and yellow medium is not working well for them.
