glad they are not from the forum here.
Ha! Absolutely.
If the forum posters on F1 Technical got together and ran a car, they would win every pole, race, fastest lap, and championship. That’s pretty clear.
Imagine the argument over who would drive it!

Why did Mercedes gift Verstappen the f. lap point by pitting Bottas ? I mean, it wasn't as if he was in tire trouble and threatened by any1 Bottas...
Maybe it was a punishment for holding up Lewis when he was specifically asked not to.

Uh, what?

“Toto, some forum expert thinks your strategy is subpar” , “hire him, James you’re fired”

Yes, it was the better strategy to get track position when Red Bull had a rare slow stop. Would've given them a much better chance at getting first and second. Maybe they didn't want to put their pit crew under pressure, and that's alright.

But I'm going from clear evidence when I offer my opinion, and it was extremely obvious that snatching track position away from Max would've given them a much, much better chance at securing first and second, and might've allowed more tactical flexibility in the closing stages to snatch the f. lap, or prevent Max from getting it.

If you have a counter opinion based on evidence, I'm all ears. If you're going to resort to childish behaviour instead, please don't litter the forum pages.

Firstly, that was definitely a more entertaining race than I was expecting personally! A great race from Lewis and Mercedes today, rolling the dice with the strategy and coming out on top. Cannot take anything away from them. A valiant effort from Max, but the better team (and car potentially) won today.

Between Lewis (and co.) and Charles... Hard to pick driver of the day! Yes, Lewis won... but Charles drove that race perfectly as far as I could see. Keeping Bottas behind after a solid run outside of T3, at the safety restart and then just pulling away from the cars behind... pretty much in nowhere's land in 4th, but the standout for me today... might be an unpopular opinion amongst some!

As Martin said, Lewis could have slammed the door on the straight. Not sure if he thought he had the dig or what, but left the door wide open to Max.

Lewis probably letting the tires / race come to him.

Edit: yep. He’s looking fast now.
Martin said Lewis was afraid of slashing his tyres on Max's front wing. Very Mature. Might have cost the win, but second place is good trade off instead of a puncture for sure.

every driver does that. hamilton has done it. he wasn't punished. why is it different for another employee like bottas?

Doesn't matter who the driver is, if you disobey team orders you do it at your own risk.

I mean that's the worst thing, he wasn't defending his own WDC challenge, he was helping Red Bulls.
Bottas 3.0 is, as always, going maximum attack for the title! 8)

Clean-shaven Max looks very odd.
I’d like to see him with a great big beard. Wouldn’t be comfortable racing with it inside the helmet though!
I suspect Max cannot grow a great big ZZ Top beard, why else would his regular beard be so thin?

Great job by Lewis and Mercedes. That strategy was a pretty big gamble given how track position is king in this track, but they made it work. They deserve kudos for that.

I do not understand why they pit Valteri though. They should have kept him out and covered off any attempt Max may make for the fastest lap. Predictably so, Max got it in the end. I don't mind Bottas holding up Lewis that much. It made for an entertaining pass at least. It didn't pay off for Valteri at the end though. It only made him look petty and desperate.

The Mercs seem to have their car sorted now. Doesn't bode well that they haven't made substantial upgrades to their car yet.

Vettel received no penalty for it at Red Bull Racing.

When you are great, they take shi*. When you are senior star performer, you get a long rope. When you are middle of the road employee potentially sabotaging a championship battle with over the top antics then you get cut to size. If Bottas does that kind of antics again, Mercedes will announce Russel for the 2022 seat with 7-8 races to go.

Even with RedBulls slow pitstop the timings as mentioned earlier in this thread shows it was marginal and Mercedes would have had to perform the fastest ever pitstop to get Lewis out ahead. Going longer was calculated to possibly take advantage of a safety car, but also give Lewis just the right amount of laps to catch Max twice.

Bottas failed today, he should have equally been able to catch Max on new Soft tyres and prevent Max from pitting for new tyres a second time for the fastest lap.

'They just had the quicker car'
Red Bull team boss Christian Horner, speaking to Sky Sports: "I don't think we could [have done anything differently]. In fairness, hats off to Mercedes and Lewis.

"They were just quicker than we were today. We were surprised they didn't go for the early undercut. [At the end] We knew he was probably going to catch us.

"They just looked like they had a quicker car today. They were able to follow so closely. They had nothing to lose when taking that pit stop into the clean air."
