I think they should increase to 3 mandatory stops in 2026 and 4 mandatory stops in 2027.
As always, my meaning is more freedom means more variability. Now everyone make 2 stops :| .

F1tv thinks both McL and RBR were hiding pace with engine modes. According to their data analysis, Ferrari are 3rd fastest : https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/arti ... P0J1SJ4c8Y

I think the bottom line will be simple: there are many strategic reasons to go flat out early, there are many reasons a driver is incentivised to hold up the field.

As a result there will be some first-laps jousting in the pitlane and after that the field is spread out over the track with cars being lapped early in the race. Any hopes of serious over- or undercutting will be gone and everybody will be waiting for a safetycar as we will see the backmarkers being lapped for the 2nd and 3rd time as everybody plays their games.

If no sc comes we'll see a cascade of pitstops for everybody to keep their position.

Therefor I think even the top teams will pit early, as any chance of serious free air after a pitstop will be just for the (very) lucky after lap 8

I thought Lando Norris had an odd looking race sim in FP2. His lap times tanked very suddenly. I think his front tires were destroyed. There were very dark bands. His tires were of the same age as that of Verstappen (16 laps by end) who was also doing a race sim on the mediums and didn't seem to run into the same problem.

Last weekend in Imola, Mclaren seemed to chew up the rear tires on the C5 (med) quite a bit. That led to Piastri's early stop and I also found out from the radio messages that Norris also had similar problems with his rear tires.

From Imola

Lap: 7/63 NOR: 1’21.347
Norris Yeah, pace is good, just stuck at the minute I think.

Lap: 9/63 NOR: 1’22.486
Joseph Russell complaining about rear tyres, keep pushing on it.

Lap: 11/63 NOR: 1’23.050,
Norris Norris passes Russell
Yeah, my rears are pretty f*k*d.

It's a bit unusual to see evidence of tire deg on a Mclare. Normally they have perfect management, no degradation, and their free practice race sims are in another world. It has looked a bit "off" for the last 2 weekends.

After which, Lando cleaned his tires and continued the race. Oscar could have done the same, but McLaren decided to diversify the strategy for the race. You shouldn't look for a sensation where there is none.

The most likely thing to happen is that if a team gets 1-2 in quali. they will take turns backing the entire field up so they van pit and still come out p1, then swap positions and let the other teammate build a 20 second gap, then pit and come out in p1. Repeat that two times and you get a 1-2 finish.
That would theoretically be even easier in one pitstop race, yet it was never attempted. So why would it be considered a viable strategy now?
Because the other option is to roll the dice now. Monaco is going to be completely random with a 2 stop. I don't actually think a team will pull this strategy though, it was mostly a joke.

I do expect us to get a really random podium though unless we get a red flag lap 1. Watch a Haas or sauber end up on the podium.

I very much believe we are going to get a Leclerc masterclass this weekend.

Monaco is a build up weekend, and Charles is just on it.

I wonder if the C6 is actually faster than the C5.

This is going to go the the team that think fastest on the fly, so McLaren Merc and Ferrari are not there, a Red Bull benefit with guest showing by Williams and Haas for good points
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.

Mercedes have been so anonymous so far. Not sure, what's going on.

My guess their car doesn't work when they need to raise it for a bumpy track.

Looks like Redbull are going to carry one set of each compound into the race.
