If the car is fast then it will be a piece of art :)
At first the BMW shocked me, but in some angles it is not too ugly. Maybe i'm being affected by a brainwashing process by Bernie and Max...
Hope that Ferrari makes a sexy and fast car out of this piece of sh1t and braindead regulations...
A car closer to the magazine drawings we have saw this months would be nice IMHO.

they are running a pole and so far nearly half of them says it is ugly. 36% are willing to put up with it as long as it bring more competitive racing. Finally 14% of weird people love them...

anyway, I'll probably be happy to side on the 36% when I see more competitive racing.

I can handle The front wing. Its looks odd by they also looked stupid when they raised it up alot a few years back. I Think the body work will not look to bad ether one they show they 2009 contenders.

Its just that Rear Wing. It looks totaly wrong. If that fixed that i think it would look ok

See, and everyone laughed at my idea of molding the rear wing into the shark fin engine cover... It would look alot better than the current 2009 reg wing...

My first impression is that these cars look absolutely god awful.

The front wing looks like its on steroids, the back end looks like it could use some viagra and getting rid of the shark gills makes the car look like a chihuahua instead of a pit bull.

I think its hideos. I'm all for the racing being closer for the backmarkers, but god this car is horrible. The closest thing i can equate it to is the 3am girl. you wouldnt bat an eye at her at 6pm and stone sober, but when 3am rolls around and youre drunk and desperate, she'll have to make do because you have no other option.

I guess i'm so used to looking at that ferrari front wing/nose design, which i think is such a beautifully packaged and well thought out design. nods to the mclaren rear wing and the FIF1 mirror mounts as well.

That said, I'm sure these cars will win me over eventually. at 3am.

From what I can see so far is that fans are happy to forgive F1 for making this ugly duck, AS LONG AS 2009 promise great entertainment with our heroes showing a galore of overtakings.

I think i feel the same way too.

So MAX and BERNIE, you hear that... make sure it is more entertaining that 2008 with less controversy.

Let's remember

1) the actual cars that race in a few months are likely to look VERY different from what we see now

2) if the racing is what all of us hope to see, "ugliness" (however you define it) will be forgotten

To my mind, the cars of 1989 were fantastic to behold, remember the Ferrari 640 anyone, but eversince then looks has gone south partly due to Max's ambitions to be an engineer.
It all started with a narrower track and grooved tyres, which led to those hideous front wheels. The lack of "mechanical" grip then gave an enormous focus on aerodynamic tweaks, which in turn resulted in all sorts of silly tack-ons to the cars body.
As for this latest folly, if the ability to run close without loosing front-end grip is the target, take a look at Champ-cars some ten years ago. Fantastic front-to- tail racing and overtaking at 200 mph+, without the cars looking like something out of a cartoon. Now how did they do that?

Yes, I remember that whole series of gorgeous John Barnard-inspired designs. And since you do, too, I am surprised you said in another thread that the FIA would do anything to ensure Ferrari wins . . . They certainly "allowed" Ferrari to lose for a long, long time!

Obviously, when Steve Nichols was a diciple of John Barnard, the 641 & 642 were similar in looks, but after that they lost it comletely as I recall.

the rear wing looks ridiculous... the whole package looks like a handicapped version of last years cars. This better improve overtaking, I mean they say that every year they do things to improve overtaking and then we get nothing. This is a drastic change for sure but still I have my doubts.

I think Bernie is slipping into senility... probably wears two left shoes for all we know. Soon instead of the champagne celebration at the end of the race the drivers will gather around and eat cake or something.

That's instead of drinking champagne. And as a substitute for spraying it they'll throw cakes at each other. TV audiences would grow massively! :D
