^Alain Prost would argue with that.

I'd be happy to listen to the spontaneous 'crap' moments, rather than the rehearsed 'we are who we are' BS.

Piquet, Senna, Prost, Mansell, Schumacher, Hill, Villeneuve, Alonso, Hamilton, Button - have all been notably grumpy after bad races. All of them, bar Mansell I think, have had someone behind them to get where they were, even if it was just a family member with some spare cash.
I can’t remember Prost or Schumacher pouting or sulking. If anything, I always find both to be extremely pragmatic and honest.

Alain Prost financed his own racing career by tuning engines and becoming a kart distributor. As for Schumacher, his father worked 2 jobs. Schumacher himself quit school to become a mechanic to finance himself.

But the grumpiest, most miserable, boring, dour sack of bones was Mansell. He had as much enthusiasm as a dying duck in a thunder storm with gastroenteritis, even when he had won something!
Just_a_fan wrote:I know lots of people - you included I think - dislike Hamilton because he arrived on the back of McLaren support (so a double whammy in many eyes). But when he arrived he actually delivered. He went toe to toe with the defending double champion and came away with the results. Then he went and won the title in only his second season. That's not the result of rich backing, it's the result of talent honed to a fine skill by long years of practise and training. Sure, the money helps (see my second para above), but on its own it's not enough.
You are quite wrong with your first sentence there. Sure I don’t agree with drivers being backed by F1 teams from an early age as this undoubtedly overlooks any talented drivers who do not have backing. As I said, I don’t agree with this, but the thing that annoys me the most about Hamilton is that he is just so damn big headed and behaves like a petulant child whenever things do not go his way. For these reasons, I will never be a fan of his as I cannot stand people like this.

As for the thing with Alonso, if you honestly think a rookie beat a driver as good as Alonso in equal machinery, then you have truly swallowed the McLaren hype. Uncle Ron has succeeded!

Going back to the thread topic, I think the use of profanity can be excused where English is not a persons first language, however these drivers are all meant to be adults and should know when to act with a bit of decorum. Sure I can turn the air blue at times but there is a time and place for everything. I mean you don’t go into a job interview or a meeting with a client and start using colourful language do you?

I don't know. It is a bit like watching a cheesy 80's film and a bit pretentious but it does make a nice change to the usual tripe.

First off, that is ridiculous to excuse someone from using profanity if English is not their first language. They know exactly what they're saying with whatever language they are using.

Also related to the topic, I'm not sure about anyone's relative age in this forum but do realize there is a generational gap in drivers, where some could actually be the fathers of others! The use of "crap" is NOT offensive to a younger generation anymore so than "shucks" or "darn".

I have no issue with profanity.

Freudian slip? Or are you actually serious about that part?

And honestly, crap is not a very offensive word. In this situation it was referring to what the driver considered a poor finishing position. It wasn't directed at the sport, it was directed at a person. How is this offensive to you? Would it have been better to say "seventh or eighth, it's pretty poopy"?
Spot on;
let's give these guys a break. I can think of several other explicative’s he could have used if he was actually being crude.

I totally agree : if "Crap" can be used in the Simpsons and broadcast well before the watershed, why should this even be an issue?

Not only was it an honest assessment of himself (which I'd have thought the "Hamilton's arrogant" crowd might appreciate) but it was pretty damned accurate, in the pejorative sense.

Hell, it seems like the man can't do any right in some people's eyes ... as much as I've hated Schumacher for the last 18 years, I still try to give him credit where its due (even if I hate myself whilst doing so).

The only thing that I find irredeemable about Hamilton is that patchy douchebag stripe-beard ... cummon Lewis, that just isn't cool, hip, big or clever.

Just one color of crap and people get things in bunches. Coulthard threatened to beat three colours of it out of Massa.

This is f*cking hilarious. Are we really arguing about Hamilton who said 'crap' in an interview.

Seriously... I love it when drivers actually say what's on their mind, instead of all those fancy PR-talks they have to give.

If it were up to me, they could swear the sh*t out of everything and everyone during a GP, it shows passion, commitment and charisma.
