Williams FW31

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

It's a pleasure to see Williams working this way!
Its nothing like the RB5 nose cone, look at the new horizontal snow plough under the nose cone...!

This week already the team have tried
The cockpit fins
Revised sidepods
New pod wings
Turning vanes dropped from the nose cone
Totally revised diffuser
Cooling outlet near cockpit
New wing mirrors
Shoulders added to the scuttle area
New front brake duct scoops
I think it's great to see Williams working so hard to improve the car. I like to think this is positive and shows they have the resources to develop the car. (Although I suppose you could say they are "thrashing" rather than "developing" . . . ) I think most of us would love to see Williams field a truly competitive car.

I sincerly hope that Bernie's money can help the team through this season without going bust. 2010 should provide a financial relief given that those radical cost-cutting measures materializes, when I am afraid the days of a 500+ staff at Grove will be long gone within soon anyway.

Frank and Patrick have only followed the 'needs' of so many staff because of others throwing millions at the game - Im sure they would build a car in their garden shed if it meant they could go racing - finances are fine so says their CFO in Motor Sport UK - I'm sure they are but the cost cuts will be welcome Im sure. :)

Don't get me wrong here Chap, but I am till waiting for the day to hear an F1 team representative saying in public; "We are in deep financial --- and need a sponsor badly to make it through the season".

Something about this car doesn't look right with all the white. I think they took the prettiest car on the grid and made it look average at best. Hope it pays off in wins and sponsorship money.

Personally i prefer the new livery, highlights the cars lines much more, the previous plain colour just made it a blob.

Nice to see Williams with some innovation on the cars aero devices, they have always been a true racing team and it shows through.

I think they too are not looking for times, but comparing parts and settings for long runs.

Got another shot of that under nose thing...

Looks like a vertical splitter/air guide, wonder if it's to create low pressure under the nose. (more elegant than the Renault if it is!)

If you follow copy the path of these pics you get hi-res versions!
